Before I start on the walkthrough for this chapter be aware that ammunition for most weapons is at a premium during this chapter. You won't be able to blast your way through with the SMG as you will soon run out of ammo. Therefore it is imperative that you use the Gravity Gun as much as possible to let you save your ammo for the later stages of this chapter. The zombies in this stage are all fairly slow and easily avoided if you want to run straight past them (apart from one special breed). Always 'check six', aka watch your back as zombies have the disconcerting habit of popping out of dark places once you've walked past.
Now for the walkthrough. Head down past the tree with the swinging corpse and smash your way into the now-famous room full of saw blades, gas bottles and zombie corpses. Continue through to the next room keeping aware that the apparent corpses on the ground do come to life so always keep a saw blade or gas bottle handy.
Making your way outside you soon come to the first of Father Grigori's traps- a fan mounted onto a car engine. Lure some zombies down your way, duck, and switch on the blades. Be aware that the blades sometimes don't kill the headcrabs so keep your crowbar handy.
Head around the corner and you'll meet the evangelical Father Grigori face to face. He is an outstanding shot with his shotgun and a great ally to have around. After his quick spiel you'll want to get into his building.
To do so you'll need to turn off the flames which are barbecuing his front yard. Head around to the left hand side of the inferno and you'll find a gas bottle. Near it will be a small red valve which will control the flames. Turn them off and duck inside.
Once inside you will be surrounded by a plethora of zombies. Grab an explosive barrel with the Gravity Gun and hurl it up into them- if you get it right you will be able to take them all out in one go. Clean up any stragglers with the available furniture, saw blades and gas bottles.
To the right hand side of the room will be a staircase leading upstairs which is blocked by more furniture. Use the Gravity Gun to clear it out and head up, taking out the zombies with pieces of furniture and the Gravity Gun along the way.

Climb over the previously electrified fence, climb the ladder and jump across the gap to meet Father Grigori again. After his second spiel head down to the planks on the left, follow them along until you get to a window and jump in. Head through the house until you get outside again.
Here you will see another ingenious trap. Pull the lever to drop the car onto unsuspecting zombies. Use the shadows and bloodstain underneath the cars as a guide to when you should drop them.
At the second car trap, pull the lever and jump on and ride it up to get to the planks on the second floor.
Follow the planks around and jump into the window. Head through the house, taking note of the three explosive barrels stacked up in the corner. You will need these in a moment. Open the door just in time to see Father Grigori taking out a zombie with his shotgun. Inside this room will be some much needed health.
Jump out onto the ledge and start using the Gravity Gun to take out zombies and headcrabs below by using the explosive barrels down there, as well as the three you passed on the way in. Once you are satisfied they are all dead jump down off the ledge onto the white car.
Head downhill, climb the ladder and follow the beams along until you get to the first left hand turn. Take out the zombie torso and jump in. Alternatively you can keep heading straight along the beams to check out the side rooms for health and ammo. Just keep an eye out for zombies and headcrabs.
Head inside at the first left hand turn. Before you head downstairs grab a saw blade for downstairs you will be confronted by six zombies in confined space. One well aimed shot can take them all out, if not head back and grab a meat hook or another blade and have another go at it. Head downstairs again grabbing supplies on the way and head outside.
Now you receive a warm introduction to the 'Fast Zombies'. These Callista Flockhart impersonators move like the wind and scream like Barbara Streisand. They're difficult to hit and can take a fair amount of punishment, although one good shotgun blast to the head will take them down. Fortunately the amount of damage they deal is fairly minimal. They scare you more than anything. Head into the first building on the left and go upstairs taking out zombies with radiators and the Gravity Gun on the way.
Once upstairs and outside Father Grigori will hand to you a much needed item- the SPAS 12 pump action shotgun. Perfect for dealing with the Fast Zombies, its power is negated by its slow reload time and small magazine (six shotgun shells). Also you can only carry a maximum of 36 shells (a far cry from 132 shells in the original Half-Life) so be selective in how you use it.
Once you've got the shotgun jump off the ledge and into the water tank in front of you. Climb the ladder up and prepare for your first mass attack by the Fast Zombies. Be sure to reload every time you get a small lull in action. Once all the zombies are down head inside and grab the health packs in the corner of the room.
Activate the elevator and make sure your shotgun is fully loaded. Two Fast Zombies will either come flying through the door (if you've left it open) or smashing through the glass sunroof (if you had the presence of mind to close the door to keep the flies out).
Once the elevator reaches the top, jump in and lower it to ground level. Once at the bottom you will be introduced to the third and final zombie species- the Poison Zombie. As you can see it's covered in four Toxic headcrabs, three of which he will throw at you. While he's not throwing headcrabs at you he wanders around like the Hunchback of Notre Dane. Only twice as slow. This breed is fairly tough, taking three point blank shotgun shells to kill.
Once you've passed the Poison Zombie head over the fence and into the alleyway. Duck into the side room if you need health. Head through the alleyway.
Once on the other side dodge the explosive barrels rolling off the rooftops. In the following section Zombies will keep reappearing no matter how many you kill, so it's best to get through this section as quickly as you can. Head downhill, taking out zombies as you go along, until you get to another car engine attached to a fan blade. You can turn it on if you like but it won't last long as the nut on top is loose- the blade will fly off after a few seconds.
To the right of this trap is a building with a small lighted balcony. Head around the back of this building, past more explosive barrels and head upstairs to the balcony. Pull the lever taking note of where the platform moves to.
Head back to the fan trap and take the right hand junction downhill. Just around the corner will be a stack of boxes with some health.
Grab the health, jump onto the boxes and jump across the gap onto the explosive barrel. Follow the path along the edges of the buildings taking out zombies with the explosive barrels and the Gravity Gun if you like (it's not necessary, but delightfully fun).

Here you will be attacked by more Fast Zombies but you will have to aid of Father Grigori to... aid you.
Jump across the gap into the window and collect the health in the room. Grab a saw blade while you're there as in the next hallway is another group of zombies. By now you should be a pretty good shot with the blade and you should be able to take them out with one shot. Mop up the survivors with your crowbar.
Head downstairs and up the ladder. Keep that crowbar handy though as this room is not only full of boxes but headcrabs as well. Head outside and across the planks and jump onto the next rooftop. Take the left down off the rooftop and follow the path downhill. Turn left at the first alley into a small courtyard occupied by a Poison Zombie. You can either stay to fight the bugger or save your ammo and just dash past him and up the stairs.
Head inside and grab the ammo inside the room. Head up the ladder and push open the trapdoor where Father Grigori will meet you once again. He'll prepare to send the skycart over to you but while you're waiting you're going to have to fend off some more Fast Zombies. Grab the shotgun ammo on the roof if you need it.
On the side of the buiding there are two drainpipes leading up to the roof where you are. These are how the Fast Zombies reach you. You can tell which pipe they will be climbing as the head of the pipe will be swinging back and forth. The easiest thing to do is go to the pipe they are climbing, peek over the edge and take them out with a shotgun blast to the head before they get to the top.
Once the cart has reached you jump in and release the handbrake. It will take you to Father Grigori who has kindly stashed some health and ammo for you.
After listening to his spiel (which sounds surprisingly like Marlon Brando's speech in Apocalypse Now) he will take you to the Graveyard. Follow him along.
Soon you will be attacked by Fast Zombies who seem to pay a lot more attention to Father Grigori than yourself. Watch his back (and yours) and follow him through the graveyard.

Just watch his back as Zombies will soon surround you. | image: http://www.hlfallout.net/image.php?id=31085 caption: Save your ammo where you can. Make use of the blades, bricks and barrels lying aroung the Graveyard. |
Once you reach the far side of the graveyard he will open a gate which he has to hold while you duck through. After saying farewell head inside the building and jump into the mine shaft, using the beams on the sides of the shaft as ledges. Now you're in the Mines.
