In this chapter you're introduced to your first vehicle, the Airboat. A point to note with the Airboat when you first get it is that it isn't armed, so if you want to kill someone you're either going to have to get out or run them over. Also the Airboat comes equipped with a headlight that's useful for spotting supply crates in the darker tunnel areas. Being powered by a fan you can also change the direction your Airboat is facing while in the air! A useful fact to remember when taking some of the jumps later on. So, on with the walkthrough!
Jump into the airboat and head down into the tunnel. Soon you'll notice the lambda symbol spray painted onto the wall to the left. These symbols indicate that supplies are nearby, and indeed if you hop out of the airboat and climb the ladder to the left of the symbol you'll find 2 crates of 9mm Pistol ammo.
Jump back into the Airboat, motor outside and you'll come across a large red dock and warehouse with the G-man watching you from above. Dock your Airboat, climb out and head up into the warehouse keeping an eye out for the two zombies inside. Head towards the back, climb the broken staircase and make your way across the rafters, taking the left-hand side route past the box. Head towards the ladder at the back keeping your crowbar handy as a friendly headcrab will drop down from the ladder.
Upstairs you'll find a crane cable spool jammed by a barrel which is holding up the cage full of supplies. Smash the barrel with your crowbar and the cage will drop free releasing its goodies for you to gobble up. Just jump into the water, grab as much ammo and health you need and jump back into your airboat.
Continuing on and you will soon come to your first wall. There will be a number of these in this chapter and there is always a jump either from logs, planks or an earthen bank to get you over them. Take the jump in the middle marked by the signs.
Turning right from the jump, you'll come to a bridge where a friendly resistance member will drop some supplies to you. Grab the supplies, take out the scanners (if you so desire) and just ahead will be a jump you have to turn right side up.
To the left of the jump is a storm drain marked with the lambda symbol, so jump in and takes you up to the top level. Here you'll find a number of blue barrels which you'll need to push into the water, grab with your hands and then place into a cage underneath the jump.
Once all the barrels are in the jump will float up, letting you gain access to it. Jump back into your airboat, take a good run-up and make Evil Kinevil proud.

Once over the jump and down the toxic waterway a Combine Dropship will appear and deploy Metro Cops to the ground. It's easiest to get a run-up and just run the silly fools over.
Heading back to the bodies to admire your handiwork you'll notice another lambda symbol on the storm drain wall. To get inside you will have to grab a barrel, drop it at the entrance of the storm drain and duck-jump to gain access to the pistol and SMG ammo inside.
Continuing on, speed past the three Metro Cops shooting at you from the bank- it's not worth your while to take them out really. Of course you can if you really want to, I'm not saying you shouldn't- but ammo is at somewhat of a premium on this section and you'll need it for later on.
Taking the jump to the left, and here you can kill two birds with one stone- or more literally, kill three Metro Cops without firing a shot by taking out the wooden poles underneath them with your airboat. Ahead will be a closed floodgate so double back to the small dock and jump out. Climb the ladder just around the corner and head towards the door.
Now prepare yourself for inside that door are three Metro Cops and five Manhacks. Take them out, head into the Garage and help yourself to their grenades. You can carry five of these beauties at any one time, and throw them a fair way. The only thing to watch out for is the very long 7-second fuse. The disadvantage of this is that it leaves the Combine plenty of time to run away after you've thrown one at them. The advantage of the long fuse is that you can pick up grenades thrown at you and return them to the sender (with your hands and the Gravity Gun). You can also 'cook-off' the grenade by holding down the primary fire button. The grenade also makes a bird-like chirping noise when the timer gets down to two seconds- so if it's chirping like your pet budgie, don't pick it up.
Grab all the supplies you need and head towards the door next to the Manhack control station. Outside will be a Combine mounted gun so sprint out the door, grab a barrel and use it as a shield. Once you get past him he'll leave his gun and pull out his SMG, so quickly drop the barrel and take him out yourself. Behind the mounted gun is another door and inside are three more Metro Cops. Open the door, lob in a few grenades, wait for them to detonate and mop up the survivors. Inside you'll find more grenades, health and ammo.

Go back into the Garage where you'll meet more Combine troops who have utilized the mounted gun you walked past on your way in. Lob some grenades, take them out (not to dinner) and grab their ammo. Head back outside and start up the airboat, heading to the now open floodgate.
Opening those gates has alerted the Metro Cops in the surrounding area. This next section is basically a gauntlet run with APC's firing RPG's at you and Metro Cops rappelling off bridges. Run over the Metro Cops, swerve to avoid the RPG's, and watch out for Barnacles hanging under the bridges. Also keep an eye out for supply crates floating in the water.
Soon you'll come to a bottle neck with the water set alight by the Combine. Head to the right hand side where you'll see a jump just waiting for you to take. Jump over and head into the tunnels.
image: http://www.hlfallout.net/image.php?id=30996 caption: The lambda sign again- and how about that. More supplies above! | image: http://www.hlfallout.net/image.php?id=30997 caption: Take out these bricks to drop the basket full of supplies. |
Head through the tunnels and back outside, where you will come to another floodgate the Combine has closed just in time to stop you getting through.
Double back and you'll notice a small door near a dock and underneath a wharf. Use your crowbar to jimmy your way in through the door (Using the crowbar for its designed purpose? No, get out of here). Inside you'll find more ammo and everyone's favorite six-shooter, the .357 Magnum revolver.
While powerful, it doesn't have a secondary fire mode and you can only carry a total of 18 rounds, so make sure you take the time to aim with this baby. Ammunition pickups for the Magnum are also very scarce. However it rewards your patience by being able to kill pretty much anything with a single shot to the head, or two shots to the body.
Once you pick up the Magnum, three Metro Cops will come through the opposite door. Punish them for interrupting your quiet moment with the hand-cannon and head up the stairs.
This next section is a running battle with Metro Cops and a Hunter-Chopper. The Hunter-Chopper makes a distinctive sound when preparing to fire, much like the spinning up of minigun barrels. When you hear it be sure to take cover behind the shipping crates. Head through the path between the crates making sure to stop by the very rusted light green crate containing two supply crates, and you will soon find yourself outside a warehouse.
image: http://www.hlfallout.net/image.php?id=31001 caption: The Metro Cop infested warehouse. Take your time, be methodical and thourough. John Wayne tactics aren't going to work here. | image: http://www.hlfallout.net/image.php?id=31002 caption: Jump across these shipping containers to make your way to the other side. |
Continue through the warehouse, taking cover from the Hunter-Chopper when needs be and smash your way through a wall of boxes. Inside will be a Metro Cop waiting for you, as well as three more on their way up from the staircase. Take them out, head down the staircase and stock up on health and HEV from the dispensers. Take care not to expose yourself to the Hunter-Chopper while recharging.
Suck in a deep breath and head outside again. You'll make your way to a small tower which contains two Metro Cops, two mounted guns, and the control panel for the floodgate.
image: http://www.hlfallout.net/image.php?id=31005 caption: Use the mounted cannons to take out that pesky Hunter-Chopper. Give it a taste of it's own medicine. | image: http://www.hlfallout.net/image.php?id=31006 caption: The floodgate control panel. This will open up the gates to let you past. |
Head through the floodgates and you're soon confronted by another Hunter-Chopper, this time armed with round mines. These mines detonate both on impact and after 7 seconds, so be sure to avoid them as best you can. For the narrower sections filled with mines you can simply wait for them to detonate before driving through. Be careful not to wait for too long though as the Hunter-Chopper will then try and take you out with its guns.
Head along the waterway, slide up the floodway and over to the other side and continue your cannonball run.
Head on and dive into the half-buried sections of pipe for a brief respite from the Hunter-Chopper although this respite is not for long. Be sure to grab the supply crates inside.
Heading out into toxic water, take the two logs on the left hand side up the wall and punch it as hard as you can. Take a right, and head towards another bridge and tunnel by taking the left hand side bank to get up there. Popping out the other side of the tunnel you will come across more bridges containing rappelling Combine and Barnacles.

Taking a left out of the floodgate, you'll see a large chimney stack fall victim to Combine shelling. Don't try to beat it through, you'll never make it (trust me I tried about 40 times) so double back for two seconds or so, turn around, then jump the middle section of the rubble.
image: http://www.hlfallout.net/image.php?id=31016 caption: ... but is easily jumped over after all your experience with the previous jumps. | image: http://www.hlfallout.net/image.php?id=31017 caption: This ladder will take you to the upper portion of the gate puzzle. |

Here some resistance fighters will be kind enough to pimp up your Airboat with a Hunter-Chopper cannon. No stereo though or 18 inch mags though. The cannon has unlimited ammo, but it has a magazine size of 100 rounds. After which you will have to wait for the cannon to recharge its ammo before firing again.
Small bursts seem most effective unless you're at point blank range. In which case you'll want to unload the weapon as quickly as it can fire. Grabbing the health and ammo they have stocked inside, head back out to your airboat and test your new weapon on some barnacles hanging off the roof.
Head out, take a left, and jump the corrugated iron. This leads into a small floodgate area which the Combine will close off to trap you.
image: http://www.hlfallout.net/image.php?id=31028 caption: Once the gate closes, swing back around and punish the Metro Cops for wasting your valuable time. | image: http://www.hlfallout.net/image.php?id=31029 caption: Use this piece of fencing to get out of the closed dock and power you way across the concrete to get out the other side. |
image: http://www.hlfallout.net/image.php?id=31031 caption: Watch out for haning Barnacles underneath the walkways- the G-Man is the least of your problems at the moment. | image: http://www.hlfallout.net/image.php?id=31032 caption: Head up the bank to the right to get into this pipe. |
Here you will come to a small 'mini-harbour', the entrance to which is marked by a chimney, a sunken red tugboat and two red shipping containers. Jump out and grab the supplies in the shipping container as you will need them to fight the two Combine APC's that are just around the corner of the tugboat.
Taking them out is a little tricky, it's best to concentrate on killing on APC before taking on the second one. Once you have taken them out, head to the far corner of the harbour where there is a gap in the fence next to a red shipping container.
Jump out of your airboat and walk around to the back of the container. Inside will be two explosive barrels, and if you don't know what to do with explosive barrels by now, you obviously didn't play enough with matches when you were young. This will open up the shipping container so you can drive through with your airboat, taking a path under the docks and to a jump into another tunnel.
This will take you to an empty basin where you will have a showdown with that helicopter that's been hounding you for the past half hour. Hose down the chopper with your cannon and watch out for the explosive barrels in the water. Once the helicopter has reached a certain level of damage, it will start deploying masses of droppable mines (how many can that thing carry?) and these are not easily avoided. The best strategy is to park your airboat on the bank near the edge of the basin and stay there while hosing the chopper down.
Once you've destroyed the helicopter, drive around the edges of the basin collecting the much needed supply crates then head over to the control gate marked with bright red lettering. Climb up the ladder on the side, open the gate and drive through. Drive up the ramp and head towards the red warehouse where more Combine will come out but are easily killed with your cannon.
image: http://www.hlfallout.net/image.php?id=31037 caption: This gate will let you gain access to the red warehouse above the dam. | image: http://www.hlfallout.net/image.php?id=31038 caption: Climb up the ladder and turn this wheel. You'll have to hold it down until it gets all the way to the top. |
Head inside the warehouse where you will find two more Metro Cops and a massive supply of health, ammo, HEV batteries and grenades.

Jump through the newly opened dam by using the logs place so conveniently in front of it and enjoy the massive fall down the other side.
Continue on where you will come across an electricity substation. Near the dock is a ladder marked with the Lambda symbol, climb up and head around the back of the substation.
There you will see a door marked with danger signs, so head right on in. And welcome to Black Mesa East.
