Left 4 Dead Save Me Some Sugar Video Contest

In the upcoming "The Sacrifice" DLC for both Left 4 Dead 1 and 2, this will be the first time Left 4 Dead 1 players get to hear the Midnight Riders ingame. "Save Me Some Sugar" was originally supposed to have a music video attached to it, but the whole confusion with the zombie apocalypse put a stop to that. Now it's up to us to make a kickass video to go along with the song.
Quote

Make a music video for “Save Me Some Sugar” and post it on YouTube.com with the tag L4DMNRSAVESUGAR. The best video will win the guitar signed by the MNRs and a gift pack from Valve. We will wait until October 1st 2010 to judge the winning entry, so take your time.

Visit the official contest page for an mp3 of the song and the Midnight Rider’s Logo.

You can use this thread to promote your video.

Valve is Obsessed With Your Body

The guys over at Valve seem to be doing more that just releasing updates to Left 4 dead 2 and delaying Episode 3. It seems they are turning to Biometrics as a way of improving the overall gaming experience.

Quote

"So when you look at out games, more and more we have this representation of player state, where we think we know how you feel, essentially," Gabe Newell explained to the latest issue of PC Gamer.

"With biometrics, rather than guessing, we can actually use a variety of things like gaze tracking, skin galvanic response, pulse rate and so on. Through combining those pieces of information, we can get a much more accurate indication of player state, so that's something we're super interested in."

First Chapters of Black Mesa Mod Previewed by Atomic

A few lucky select few have already played through the first few chapters of the long anticipated mod "Black Mesa" which is an entire remake of the first Half-Life (made by Valve) using the most recent Source engine.
Quote

He brought in the latest build for us to play with yesterday, and play with it we have. The game's more or less complete - albeit with lots of tweaking to go - right up to the Xen levels. We could have jumped into any part of the game, but really, you have to start at the classic starter level, Inbound.

Wow.

The combination of attention to original detail, and new material provided by the modern team is impressive. If you've ever tried to go back to Half Life you'll know the old engine really isn't aging well; this, however, makes the game fresh and up to date.

It's also fiendishly self-referential - there's a newspaper on one of the chairs in your carriage called the Inbound Times... The Half Life sense of humour is very much intact and expanded upon.

We have a few members of the team floating around on our own forum, if only they'd give us the same treatment . . .

Valve wants to make their own Half-Life movie

PC Gamer recently interviewed Gabe Newell and one of the things that was covered was their plans on making a movie, a movie based on the 1998 best-selling game. Gabe Newell's attitude towards hollywood (and video game movies) is that if you want something done, you've got to do it yourself. Their TF2 "Meet the Team" shorts have been experiments in movie-making as well as hilarious back story.
Quote

There was a whole bunch of meetings with people from Hollywood. Directors down there wanted to make a Half-Life movie and stuff, so they’d bring in a writer or some talent agency would bring in writers, and they would pitch us on their story. And their stories were just so bad. I mean, brutally, the worst. Not understanding what made the game a good game, or what made the property an interesting thing for people to be a fan of.

“That’s when we started saying ‘Wow, the best thing we could ever do is to just not do this as a movie, or we’d have to make it ourselves.’ And I was like, ‘Make it ourselves? Well that’s impossible.’ But the Team Fortress 2 thing, the Meet The Team shorts, is us trying to explore that.”

This is just a snippet from the interview, you can find the rest of it in the latest PC Gamer when it's released.
