I have a pentium 2.8 ghz HT processor how much ghz could i get if i overclocked it and i have no idea how to over clock is there a website i could go to that would show me.

I would go no higher than 3.2 ghz, but i bet you could go higher. Just increase the multipier in your bios, unless your cpu is locked.

only go up a couple of fsb at a time. that way ur cpu will slowly get used to it. u should get it to about 3.4 with a zalman fan or a volcano. with a good fan u can get just about anything

cool, i've never really tried to overclock anything apart from my old GeForce2, even that i didnt do right and ended up making funny black scan lines appear on my screen when i adjusted the clock speed..

how far would you say i could go with a 2.8ghz 800fsb prescott chip w/ 1mb of LV2 cache?.. could i overclock the cache to say 1.4mb? or it that impossible???

maybe, if u tried really hard but ull need a REALLY GOOD FAN. and take it 1 small bit at a time.

No offence dude but you sound like you've no clue as to what your doing, I'd either do a lot of reading first or leave well alone. You've probably got an 'off the shelf' PC so it wasn't designed for overclocking. You've probably got stock cooling (i.e. the heatsink and fan that came with your CPU) which isn't really designed for overclocking, your Mobo most likely wasn't designed more OCing either, you also need a high quality power supply as well really (I've blown several :tounge ).

And at the end of the day your not gonna see big improvements from going from 2.8Ghz to 3 or 3.2Ghz.

If you're gonna do it anyway you need to install something like motherboard manager (mbm) so you can keep an eye on the temperature. You also want to dig out your motherboard manual to find out how to clear your CMOS (resets your bios defaults) if you change something and it won't boot.

Chances are you've listened to some of these people and increased your FSB a few mhz, then your PC hasn't booted and your staring at a blank screen and I'm talking to myself...........

For a start, dont be a pussy and so no offence, if your remark is going to make someone take offence then dont think that by you saying that beforehand they wont feel a thing or get pissed-off with you.

That said. I have never bought a stock PC and built all my systems i have had apart from my first. No i've never tried to overclock my CPU/RAM, no i am not buying my components so that they can handle overclocking and yes i 'will' be getting a stock HSF with my CPU.

I wasn't talking to you for a start, I was talking to the guy that asked the original question, not the looser who asked if he could overclock his cache from 1mb to 1.4mb!! How do you hope to make more RAM by overclocking, it's a physical entity. I have real difficulty believing you've built anything that's turned on at the end.

I said 'no offence' because my post was meant to be helpful rather than offensive, because I find some people take offence at anything, as you've illustrated.

It's written from an Athlon/Tbred perspective but a lot of it applies to an Intel system.

Be sure to read up a lot on overclocking, make sure you have propper airflow in your case, and good cooling. And only overclock with few numbers at a time. If your lucky, then your MOBO (Motherboard) has a mechanism that shuts down and resets the bios in case you clocked it too hard.

If you want the easy way of overclocking something get a AMD XP Processor and have about 1 GB of Memory ready, cause its a lot easier to do on a Athlon-Based Board then its is for a Pentium, I've tried it before.
