That has nothing to do with this topic.. post it elsewhere.

Let me rephrase then:

Because my GeForce 4 Ti 4800 seems to be the weak link in the chain, what video card do you guys use that runs the game without the issue stated in the origional post?

half life 2 is the first game in a long time to require a good sound card. i kinda wish i knew whether or not my audio card was actually fried. if i knew it was fine i would put it in right away and not have sounds starting and stoping. but it;s not unnacceptable, and we gotta live with it! we've ignored the sound card industry dont you think?

nah, nsbucky, it's because your onboard sound doesn't match up to HL2 standards.

how you gonna be mean to your CPU and mobo and make them process sounds?

Could the game have issues with raid configs??

I get these slight jitters on my machine as well and I think this may be the culprit. I fired it up on my laptop (vid. card is not as good) and the jitters disappear.

What RAID software are you using? My mobo came with the nVidia chipset, so I use the forceware drivers. I've also noticed my disk IO is well below what the drives are rated at.

Try running HDTach and see what sort of performance you're getting from your stripe.

I have the same problems and I wanted to post my system specs for comparison

Athlon 1900+
Asus nforce2 MB (A7N8X)
intrigrated 5.1 sound (SoundStorm Dolby-Digital) using SPDIF
GeForce 4 ti4600
512mb ram
ATA133 hard drive
latest drivers for everything..latest directx9.

It's not that big of a deal for me, but it is slightly annoying. Doesn't ruin the game at all, thankfully.

This seems to be a widespread problem. I have seen similar threads on this forum and over on the halflife2.net forums. I have tried the suggested fixes and nothing helps.

My gameplay is alot less glitchy (almost completely gone) if I turn down the video detail settings to "medium"
Here are my specs anyway:

Athlon XP 2600+
512MB DDR333 RAM
Asrock K7S8X mobo
Radeon 9700 pro / 4.12b CAT drivers
Windows XP SP2
C-Media on-board sound

Are you all sure its not something to do with Auto Save?

Mine is doing it to, if I go to Load Game the screenshots of the game as the moment of save are either blank or corrupted.

P4 3ghz
1gb RAM
GF6800 256mb
SB Audigy 2 Platinum Pro with 5.1 sound enabled

Game running at 1600x1200 full detail DX9

I have the same problem with the slight annoying skipping, clunking, what ever you call it..
My fps range from 40-115 Vertical Sync ON and the game runs smooth apart from this one issue.

P4 Intel Prescott 3.2
1024MB DDR2 Kingston RAM
Asus P5GD2 mobo
Asus ATI X800XT (Pcie) / 4.12b CAT drivers
Windows XP SP2
C-Media on-board sound
120 Gig HHD SATA (Western Digital)

Hey people, I had a skipping problem too. I had 512MB of PC3200...you know what the solution was? 1 gig. after I added more ram, ran smooth as a baby's bottom.

EDIT: I got two sticks of kingston hyperx from bestbuy because a) it was already on sale and b) it has a 25 dollar rebate making it about 130 a stick. VERY good stuff. If you can wait a few days, order it from newegg. I, however, do not know patience as my own.

You might be onto something there.

There may be a console command to disable auto save, as thats what I first thought it was.
