UNTIL NOW!!! :Posted Image

A few days ago i was very disappointed to hear that the physgun (as we knew it form the E3 videos) was not included in the final release of HL2. So, in an attempt to find out more about it, and also to see if we could get it back, i sent a PM as well as email to Gabe Newell. After some more thinking on the subject i realised that the chances of hearing back from Gabe were pretty slim, so i decided to explore other rungs in the ladder, and go for a guy i thought would know best about it. So i headed over to the Valve website and started looking for the weapons modeler for HL2...however it doesnt actually list who models what... just general bios for everyone. So i made an educated guess, and went with Aaron Barber. So i sent him an email which contained the following content:

Sorry if im being bothersome... but i ws just curious if we will ever
wind up seeing the blue-beamed physgun we saw in the E3 demos... i
know a lot of people in the forum i frequent have been discussing how
they wanted to play with this physics gun, only to find that it was
scrapped from the final release. Any chance we might see it make a
comeback as a dev command?
Cmon! you know you guys still got it kickin around the office!
;)hehehe

Thanks for reading, and for the best FPS ive ever played!

Afterward, Aaron was so nice, he actually forwarded it to Jay Stelly, the lead programmer for HL2, and got the following response, which he then forwarded to me:

This is from our lead programmer, Jay Stelly.  Not sure if he sent this
to you or not, so I am forwarding it to you to be sure.

We're going to put the code for it in the SDK.  So it'll show up in a
mod really soon :)

Sorry for the double post, but just wanted to add that the gun im referring to is in the E3 video only... its the gun that emits a blue beam which can levitate, and extend\retract objects, as well as weld game objects together. Firing weld points as a secondary fire, then putting to object together at that weld point will cause them to fuse together. By pressing the reload button, any welds you have made will be broken, and your creation will fall apart.

Imagine taking metal signs and welding them to the buggy, making it bulletproof... or creating your own traps in multiplayer (when we get it) by welding a support beam holding up a ton of bricks, and clicking reload when someone walks under it...

The possibilities are endless with this welding ability, and gives a sort of building twist to gameplay...

There was an area in Ravenholm which seemed a lot like Trap town, but when I entered the building the whole interior design was completly diffrent.

That part is in Nova Prospekt, however that has been changed slightly as well.

SPOILER ALERT

The physgun iis in the HL2 game, but not in the way you think. I just beat the game today and at the very last level the Combine take all your weapons away except for the gravity gun. A scene then happens where a beam of blue energy is zapped into the gravity gun. So from then, you can pick up and toss enemy forces, as well as electrocute then with a power \ful shockwave blast with the primary fire. Picking them up is secondary fire. Don't flam for revealing this.
