Not very hard. The only difference I noticed from medium (which is what I beat it on the first time) and hard is that the striders kill you extremely easily when they have a clear shot. That made me replay a few strider moments over again, but besides that, there was no difference for me from normal to hard. And that's a good thing, in my opinion, for HL2. I never thought HL2 should be one of those uber challenging games where you have rework your strategy over and over again to find one that works. You're supposed to sit back and enjoy the cinematic nature of the game while feeling challenged, but not over-the-top, kick your ******* difficulty.

If you want that kinda game, go with Far Cry on realistic mode. Very intense, very challenging, very fun.

Anyways, who else has beat it on hard and did you have a difficult time doing it? Thoughts?

I finished the game on HARD last night, started on the morning of the 16th. THE BEST GAME MADE EVER.
The striders were insane...

I must have played for 18-20 hours, almost straight after it was released starting on hard. Some parts were very difficult when you're struggling to hold it in after drinking your fifth mountain dew :):

to be quite honest i thought thehard mode was quite hard. there was a couple times when i had to restart and do it over again. the only thing that doesnt make it extremelyhard is they give you alot of med kits along the way otherwise you have to admit it would be very hard

I finished it on hard, i only found it extremly frustrating, in NovaProspekt with the final Gun Turrent setup and in the Citadel, getting past the 4 L337 Combine Troops and with the strider behind them. Ah thats was hard.

But otherwise the game wasnt that challenging, still a brilliant game though.

And what's with the Easy mode? The game is R rated yet it helps you to aim on Easy mode. What kind of retard who is old enough to buy the game legally would need that kind of help? Maybe the Collector's Edition comes with a spoon to feed you while you play.

Yeah, the only time I was challenged on hard was the final strider you kill in Follow Freeman and the strider in NovaProsekt. But yeah, the enemies didn't seem any more challenging or anything, I dunno...maybe I'm just kickass.

The point of a difficulty setting is to make the game enjoyable for all skill levels. I found hard almost no different from normal mode (ie. very easy except for a few select areas with gunships and striders). Therefore, the difficulty settings have to be tweaked.

Doom3 has the hardest difficulty setting ever: nightmare mode, which causes your health to constantly bleed down to 25, etc. Too bad the game sucks. The only cool thing about doom3's gameplay is the soulcube, which leeches health from slain monsters.

But! I'm going to try beating hl2 on hard with just the USP, crowbar, and manipulator.

Ha. It does sound pretty stupid. Maybe I should go back and see how quickly I can solve the game in easy mode. :):

Well all the troops and machines can take more hits and they do deal more damage. Of course the game is going to be alot easier the second time you play it, cause you played all of the scenes at least one time before!

Still i do think they should have made a super challenging level, so the pro gamers can really test their skills. The game in total (On extremely ******* hard) doesnt have to be very fun, but just having to do everything perfectly to succeed in some levels can be fun and boost your self confidence, ingame if not irl :P

Well 6 hits for a gunship was pretty hard, espesially when fighting more than one at a time.

I played through the first 3 maps on normal at first and found it WAY too easy, then I started over on hard (I know I didnt HAVE to start over) and noticed that the metro cops could actually do at least MINOR damage to me before I killed em'. Also, according to the prima book they're is a HUGE difference in enemy and health... but that doesnt matter I spose'.

You know those really fast zombies? They should put armor on them or something...make them run faster and leap higher....yeah....Or if the zombies RAN at you instead of walking. Man that'd be nuts in Ravenholm
