I can't see why you like it. The older voice had a longer experience in the Half-Life 2 series and it sounded partially better. Lou Gosset Jr.'s voice was more raspy and non-human.
Longer experience? As I recall in EP 1 he said nothing except the chanting.
Besides they were looking for a different voice to fit his more involved role. I liked Gosset's voice quite a lot, but I can't say I don't like this new one.

He is established though! In HL2 he was established as a mysterious character that doesn't speak much but is an undeniable asset to the humans. It just seems like such a change and very hard for me to accept. I'll get used to it but I wont like it.
So all the vortigaunts are the same now? Besides him turning into an ally is a big change compared to HL, but I haven't heard many poeple complaining about that.
Another thing is, that having one with you and having him hardly speak, well that gets boring. You'll get the feeling he's just another NPC, like the rebels and won't connect with him that much. If Grigs and Sheckley had just been two standard rebels, you would have discarded them easily.
Besides a more talkative vort means more insights into their culture.
And I thought people were eager to get more info on the HL-universe? On one hand people want to know more about the G-Man, but the Vortigaunts have to remain mysterious.
