What is .mdf and .mds?

I recently download..something and I ended up with these two types of files...what are they and how can i open them?

.mds and .mdf

nah man i bought hl2 :D it is however a game, and i'm short on money right now so i can't buy it :(

ok i got alcoohol 120..but am i supposed to burn it to a disc or something?

EDIT: alcohol 120 is only recognizing the .mds and not the .mdf(or maybe its the other way around)

Dont use alcohol 120% just use Daemon Tools clicky
