Are you kidding me?? From microsoft?

Well, it was actually made by another copany, called giant. Since thier antispyware program was so good, microsoft just brought the rights to the program and they are using it as thier antispyware software. It is just about unchanged. Only difference I see is that they added the option to create a restore point.

That is the perks of being a rich company... why bother spending time to make a good program when you can just buy the rights for another?

The microsoft spyware is in my experience, the best of them all.

When I ran it, it found several hidden files that both Ad-aware and Spybot S&D missed, even with the latest updates.

there was an article on slashdot.org a few weeks ago where they compared ginat/microsoft antispyware against spy sweeper and although the microsoft one was good spy sweeper did beat it with both finding more junk and ability to remove it.

what does turning off system restore do? and when your done should you turn it back on or does it automatically turn i back on?

So what limitations would I have using Linux? What would I gain out of it... I'm interested.

I recommend Pest Patrol. It was proven to be the most thorough scanner. They update very frequently and it's good stuff. Unfortunately, it's the most expensive spyware software. It has a "Cookie Patrol" and "MemCheck" so it keeps your memory from jacking up.

I find it better than SpyDoctor, SpySweeper, S & D, Ad-Aware, and just about everything else.

Noticeable differences. Mind you, Microsoft is the only company with acess to that source code giving it the advantage in the spyware/virus field. Microsoft however, has just recently realized small companies (firefox, linux providers) are gaining ground on them. Thus SP2. Also, the spyware removal program. While it doesn't look like they've done much, they actually just bought a base and changed things to accomodate spyware removal using their knolwedge of the OS' source code. Its a much better program than anything out there now.

You couldn't play a lot of games.

not to mention adding new hardware can be a real nightmare as well. trying to get my soundcard and tv card to work properly in linux has proved to be way above my skill level.
