Holy crap!

Cell Processor

How do I bodge one of these on my Intel motherboard? I'm a die hard PC gamer, but I'm not sure I'm going to be able to resist getting a PS3 with this type of processing power. I don't have a clue what a PS3 would sell for, but I'm sure it won't be anywhere near a top end PC .... and the CPU will smoke anything that Intel and AMD has in the works. GPU will be solid too.

If you buy a gaming platform for it's CPU, then you shouldn't be a gamer in the first place. That's a problem with all these "hardcore" PC gamers. Most of them are hardcore idiots.

Not that I have anything against a PS3 here. I'll probably be getting one myself, and if it's good I'll keep it. If not, I'll sell it like my PS2. But judging a system by its CPU is sheer stupidity.

You already can. My friend went to Hong Kong and got a 4 core Pentium 660.

i think it WILL be good, b/c performance like that, should play next generation games... like unreal3 for an example

Ok, why would they make a system with that kind of power? I can assure you, with almost certainty, that that processor will be no faster than most available today. Why? Two reasons. First, clock speed does not equal over all speed. Second, it would be stupid for them to do that anyway. Any games made for the new systems will not require anything near that spec, especially concidering that they dont have an OS to deal with. All that that processor would do, is make the system usable for a long time, which is not a smart economic move since then they will not be able to make a new unit to force people to upgrade for, for a long time. In short, making something that fast for the console gaming world would be stupid, even if it was possible.

And anyway, if the console world had its hands on this super fast uber technology, dont you think the computer world would have at least heard of it by now?? Its ridiculous.

Also, no mention is made of its video card. Unless the sony magicaly got its hands on another ultra mega technology, its just going to bottle neck there, making all that power useless. Trust me, your building yourself up for nothing.

PS: im not a console hater.

And another thing, how does this "leap frog" current processors? Its clocked at just over 4ghz, and it wont be out for a long time. If current computer processors can top 3.8 now, what do you think they'll be able to do in six months?

Remember guys, there are no benchmarks, reviews, or any sort of documentation that states it is superior to the current technology open to the public yet. If it was revolutionary, AMD would have already stated plans to create technology similiar to that on their own. I think it's just an alternate direction for cpu tecnology. Sort of like SLI with nVidia cards. BTW, 4.6 Ghz isn't that great of a leap considering it's not coming out till next year. At the rate computer technology has been growing, PC chips will already surpass that by 2006.
