OK all you CSS and DoDS fans, I want your honest opinion. As an avid fan of CSS (I play it aLOT), I was wanting to play DoD:S, but I don't know if I'll like it or not. I luv CSS, but DoD:S is different in many aspects. I don't want to spend $20 on something I'll play once and never again. Is it buggy like the old css beta was? How many servers are there for DoDS? And are you addicted? Opinions plz, thx :smile

It has a faster pace than CSS, but your framerate can drop pretty low when the action's hot. There a plenty of servers to play. My only dislike is all the melee attacks. Due to Source's "Lag Compensation" Knifing a moving target is next to impossible. (Expect to "miss" a few times, and probably get shot.)

I've personally never had any frame rate problem. And I only have an AMD64 3200 and a 6600 GT. It really depends on your settings, computer parts, how it's running, and the server and people you're playing with. IE don't play on servers with pings in the triple digits.

That being said, this game is amazing, and has not dissapointed me on any level. From the gameplay to the graphics, it's all fantastic. And I'm a big fan of WW2, so I guess that helps. But I would loved this game even if my 20$ purchase only covered the first 3 hours I played it. That's how good I think it is. Just be warned that it might take you a while to really get into it and not die every 5 seconds and not kill anyone, though that depends on your prior skill in these types of games, and fades after the first hour or so, for me anyways. Though the hand models are extremely fat and kinda plastic looking. But big deal. Buy it now!

I've come to love the source engine. CS:S looks great. Today, I went and played DoD (old version). YUCK!! It looks like total garbage, but hey, what can I expect when I've been playing source for over a year. I guess I'll give dod:s a go at it. L8r guys.

It is worth it.

It is very addicting, you dont have to love WW2 games to love this, its that good.

Expect Recoil hell though, but it is something to get used to.

lol so true

DoD:S is great and very fast paced! I wasn't sure if I was going to buy it but then I watched a few movies and looked at a whole slew of screens and decided it is worth it.

About the innaccuracy - I find that the guns are fairly accurate for the first few shots, it's just that the cone of fire is so huge the bullets have the potential to randomly go just about anywhere.

But I find DOD Source to be very fun and fast paced, and promising. It doesn't really advance the old gameplay much, but it is sure fun to sneak in behind enemy lines as an assault troop and get some punch kills.

At the moment it is not living up to its potential because it only offers 4 maps that offer similar gameplay. None of the maps allow for snipers to set up like the old pre-beta days like Seg3 or Hill. Hopefully new Valve/community maps will come out soon that offer a greater variety of gameplay.

I think that's to help instill a sense of teamwork in the players. If you can get a few guys to the frontlines and have them work together, the map is yours.
