Issues with Steam Server Lists

Hey, I'm having a really annoying problem with every app I have for steam...

I'm not really sure how long this has been going on, but every time I open up the server list in cs:s, I only get about 400-450 servers. I don't have any filters on that might be tuning down the number of servers that I see, but maybe I did something to cause this...anyway, even when I try to join one of the servers I see, I get an error saying that many of these servers have no one in them, even when the server list clearly says that they're populated.

I looked all over the Steam help section, couldn't find anything. I also searched all over these forums, couldn't find anything that was like what I'm seeing. Any help would be greatly appreciated, and thanks in advance for taking the time to read what took me about twenty seconds to write. :8

So you're getting too few servers with each update/refresh list . . . and then you get an error that says there's nobody in the server? I wonder why it gives you that error instead of just allowing you to join a server with nobody playing in it (like it normally would). Wish I could help. GL.

Delete your clientregistry.blob file which is located at.

X:\Program Files\Valve\Steam

X= the drive letter to where you have Steam installed.

Do you have any other software (firewall or other) that you have installed for security purposes? If yes, what are they?

Have you validated your GCF files just i case something is corrupted?

There is always the unpopular un-install/re-install.

Good luck. If all else fails, submit a ticket to Valve or post on the Steam forums where you are more likely to get help.

Thanks, Trooper...I'm going to go try those things right now, I'll post results in a few minutes.

EDIT:

- strangely, deleting clientregistry.blob raised my server count to 905...I expected it to either work or not haha, but any improvement is fantastic. Thanks.

- i don't have any other software.

- how do i validate these gcf files?

DOUBLE EDIT:

- Now it's showing 2200 servers, so I'm going to assume that that was the problem. Thanks a ton, trooper.

No problem. :smile

I should note. When you delete that file and then log into Steam, do not panic. Steam will have to re-update things and re-create that file. Just a heads up.
