HL2 a masterpiece? I only ever considered it an above average shooter. HL1 was a masterpiece for me, but HL2 was just so meh, the only standout bits for me were ravenholm, and when you met up with that general guy in the shack and he gives you the rocket launcher to shoot down the gunship. Episode 1 was a great improvement however.

Yes, I consider it a masterpiece. I think it's one of the best put together games ever made, with amazing pacing, story, voice acting, scripted sequences, graphics, sounds, etc.

Sure, it looks good, and the guy who can barely speak English hypes it up really well

Rofl :D Ya I have trouble with him sometimes

HL2 had lots of ups. But it only scratched the surface of texture, and physics potential and we're seeing it clearly now that HL2 is falling fast. I bet Crysis will sell more than HL2, not in the first bit, but after a little while it will catch on hard. TBH most of the people I usually CS with have no idea what Crysis is... I just shake my head, so much to miss :D

See, games can promise that sort of thing, but you're not guarenteed that sort of freedom or satisfaction until you've played through the game. Getting stupidly hyped up for games always ends badly.

Exactly. Crisis won't sell as much as HL2. And it only scratches the surface of texture and physics potential? I still think it has some of the best physics ever, and it's three years old. And the textures? IT'S 3 YEARS OLD! No ******* it doesn't look as good as Crisis.

I agree, HL2 is a masterpiece. I just got through to Nova Prospect, and I got my ******* handed to me(?).
HL2 has a unique (albeit icomplete) play system. I am rusty.
Not to mention its running like butter right now.

i have to admit i anticipated the release of hl2 waaaaaaay too much... to the point where it was the only thing that would make me extremely happy... so when i got it and played through it...i was almost extremely dissapointed in it... to the point where i would give it a 7/10 maybe even 6... i remember going to school the day after playing it all night and just thinking about how it was nothing i expected it to be... though it does have its really cool parts.. i dont think its a masterpiece. Crysis on the other hand...WOW!

But, aren't you repeating the cycle with Crysis?

It's good to be psyched about games.

I love the HL series because it always becomes an event, no matter what incarnation it is. I've never been able to connect HL and HL2/Ep1 story-wise or experience-wise, because they are just an evolution of Gaming, a product of technology, as it were.

On that note, couldn't miles of the same jungle terrain get drab and boring in much the same way HL2's enviornments did?

I dont think the terrain is repeated.

I don't get the relevance of remonade to this discussion but

OH MY GOD!

I HAVE to play me some POWER STRUGGLE!!! No mipac I hadn't read up on multiplayer because I'm lazy, but that is the coolest ****ing mode I have EVER EVER heard of!!! It sounds absolutely perfect.

Also they've stopped vehicle from ruling the battlefield with component damage. So instead of getting run down by a jeep you can shoot out its tyres then put a few rounds into the fuel tank and blow it to bits (see videos). And apparently if you shoot the helicopter in the rotors (blades) they like spin out and crash! What's more, when they crash they may or may not explode, depending on how they land!

32 players max per server. It would be so sweet if it was like 64 and the maps were twice as big, but alas. Also if you can honest to God FLY THOSE AIRCRAFT I am so getting a joystick.

EDIT:

Quote

We do not know how much processor power is needed, though in a recent PC Gamer UK magazine preview Cevat Yerli said an Intel Core 2 Duo E6600, 2GB RAM, and an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 card could run the game at "ultra detail" settings.

Does that mean an E4300 @ 3.0GHz will cut the mustard for ultra? Because I've already got my 8800GTS 640MB and 2GB RAM... ****ing drool.

Well I assume it doesn't just crash as soon as you shoot it, just watch that teaser trailer where the guy was fighting the chopper. Took forever. Exact quote was:

Quote

Let's take a helicoptor for example, shooting it's back rotor will send it into a violent spin and will most likely cause it to crash into the ground. However, like in real-life, helicopters don't always explode when they crash, it depends on how it crashes and where it crashes.

Not an official qute or anything, but it sounds cool. Point is vehicles have weaknesses and are more balanced than say BF2...
