Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura. Faulted? Yes, in some ways, but it is by far one of the most original and creative game settings I've ever seen, and the gameplay system fit perfectly with it.
Every fantasy RPG is all about Humans, Elves, Dwarves, Orges, etc. It is always the same medieval setting. Ultimately, its all just inspired by Tolkien.
Arcanum broke the tradition and created a new world. It advanced the tradition "fantasy" world to the 18th century. Like the human world, this classic fantasy world would not stay "medieval" forever, and Arcanum showed what it could be like when they advanced.
That game goes down as one of my all time favourite titles. The art, the music, the gameplay, the story, and the setting. It was all exactly what I wanted in a title.

Eat my piss.

Mafia was a great game and I hadn't heard a thing about it when I bought it.

It had water reflections, dynamic lighting, and when you looking up into the sky, you could see 3D planets (that's right, no sky boxes) and stars moving around.
It had Gibs also, which is a big bonus for any game in my books ;).
