i may be listening to deloused right now but imo frances the mute is a lot better, i think they manage to tie the album together better and the songs are frankly more interesting - except maybe Plant a Nail in the Navel Stream which doesnt really have any musical substance. it still works as part of the album as a whole though. got to say that pour another icepick is my favourite song of theirs, its got that 'weird factor' but it also rocks hard :8

Yeah I like Frances a lot more as well. It has more weird/ambient/garbage noise on it, which turned me off at first. But the quality of the songs is outstanding.

yeah definately an aquired taste... the first time i listened to it with my housemate he went + turned it off :o he really isnt great at expanding his musical horizons though - he basically just listens to whatever his parents do + whatever plays on the radio

311 - I'll be here awhile

311 is one of the few alternative-reggae bands that I've heard (they're not full-blown reggae, but they're close enough to have the genre title in there somewhere). Sublime is an excellent mention as well (possibly better than the aforementioned). And of course there's Bob Marley, who is the best reggae band I've ever heard.

And Then There Was Silence - Blind Guardian

I'm still on my Blind Guardian binge, I can't get enough of them. Greatest power metal band I've heard.

Their new album is due for release this september, I can't wait. If you've heard their new single (Fly) you can see that they've developed a new style, hopefully it turns out well.

Wow that name is so ironically cliche.

Too Many Humans- Buckethead

This is actually the only blues piece I've heard from him. It's good to see that he covers that type of music as well. :8

Captain Beyond - Raging River of Fear

Quote

Captain Beyond was a US rock band formed in Los Angeles, California in 1972. Its members were singer Rod Evans (from England), guitarist Larry "Rhino" Rheinhardt, bassist Lee Dorman, and drummer Bobby Caldwell. Evans was a former singer in Deep Purple, and Rheinhardt and Dorman had their past in Iron Butterfly. Caldwell had come to prominence playing with Johnny Winter. He was replaced by drummer Martin Rodriguez on the group's second album. After that album Evans decided to leave the band. Captain Beyond re-formed again in 1976, with singer Willy Daffern, and Caldwell back on the drums.

Captain Beyond played hard rock influenced by progressive rock. Although the band achieved very little commercial success, the group nevertheless has become a cult band and its influence is felt today as legions of newcomers are discovering their work.

I think that they should be placed right alongside other bands that blazed the progressive rock trail, such as King Crimson, ELP, and Yes. I bet that if it'd released it's debut album a year or two later than it did, Captain Beyond would have been way more popular.

I edited my ambient post to include some links to free ambient music on the net, and I got rid of the huge quote at the end by turning it into a link.

I've also been listening to that song by Mogwai (Helicon 2) that was linked here. It's good.

Wow...you just got me into ambient music...I like. It's just nice to sit and listen to while I work on the computer rather than rock because with rock it distracts me, but that stuff you posted just fits in the background quite nicely. Thank you.

New and improved eh?

Well I've been listening to Red Hot Chili Peppers and their album By The Way. I'm a fan of most music if I hear the tune and I like it. Anyway I really got into the Chili Peppers when I heard the song Californication and seen the video. I bought the By The Way album and then Californication and then their Greatest Hits.

I just feel their music is brilliant and although I'm not a fan of concerts or 'gigs' but they are one group that I would love to see live.
I used to have something good here, I'm sure of it......

I'm listening to Depeche Mode right now. They're different, and I've just recently started listening to them. So far I've listened to Enjoy the Silence and A Pain That I'm Used To. The lyrics flow well with the music, its great.

I'm actually listening to some Collective Soul right now. I just got their greatest hits cd the other day and it's not that bad. Some of the songs sound kinda similar, but overall its pretty good. I'm starting to get away from my multi-week long listening spree on Stadium Arcadium by the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
