The 10 and unders is no good apprently, it was redevised into needing one post in the 'welcome' thread we already have before they can make a topic anywhere.

I was reading the newpaper and apparently 9 in 10 emails across the world are spam now.

Not too much to do with the current situation, but it's ever so slightly related.

It's been that way for quite a while, actually.

Now you're just being stupid. I often wondered how big someone could blow up a simple thing like requiring one post in a welcome thread into some sort of anti-new-member armageddon. Well, ok, I haven't often wondered, but I did just then.

First it was a whole forum, now its a thread. What's it going to be next? Settle on what point you're trying to make already.

I honestly don't see what's so wrong with having a new member introduce themselves instead of launching straight into a topic which will probably just get flamed and closed.

That's a patent exaggeration. Only a small number of "new member topics" have turned into flame wars, and they haven't done more so than in a

Just a simple 'Hi, I'm so-and-so, I've joined fallout because it seems like a really great community!' would suffice, and they could be on thier way. They're introduced, they've had a few welcoming posts from the regulars, they are already starting to feel part of the community. Now they can go on and ask if G-man is Gordon from the future, or that he's found G-man in Route Canal, or post that he's made some stellar G-mod poses without hindereance.

Why would someone who wants a question answered or some help, need or care about introducing themselves to a bunch of nicknames on an internet forum. We need to be helpful to new members as soon as is possibly in the registration and posting phases.

Once again though, you've missed the entire point. How does locking up new members in a forum or topic help defeat the spam problem? The simple truth is it doesn't. It simply diverts the problem some where else. Once again, you've shown this to be not about getting rid of spam, but of getting "newb members" out of your way, with sarcastic remarks about "G-man is Gordon from the future" comments.

We need to stop the spam, full stop. Dumping spam on new members and out of the way is not a fair or decent option.

The last paragraphs of my previous post should answer that question.

Q, my lad, spam bots are entirely automated and cannot tell where they can post. If there was one topic in which they could post, the chances they'd find it are slim.

I don't see a problem with e-mail verivication tbh. Nearly every forum has it, and it only takes a second or two to click the link in the e-mail.

It's called forming an idea as it progresses based on feedback, you should look it up sometime. I've made allowances and changes according to what members think. If you'd been following it instead of putting it down every 5 seconds you would of picked up on that.

Oh ******* you Q. Seriously. I've got no 'hidden' agenda here, and everyone god-damn knows it. You're just pulling stuff out of your arse. How does making them introduce themselves 'get them out of the way' and stop them from making such topics? It ******* doesn't. Can spam bots locate a specific thread to post in? Unlikley.

Hands up members, who things Q is being a twat? I do, because insinuating something like that is very personal, and above all esle, it's damn right hurtful. As you can probably tell by my response. That's not my personality at all.
