I'm sure the mods and staff are doing a fine job, but the idiots still prevail, flaming all the time.
There are so many insults around and most of the threads seem to be off topic. Things that keep other sites like hl2world together is the skill you see in the modders and mappers, as well as the advice they give.
There also seem to be too many religious flaming threads.
People believing what they want doesn't hurt you.
but you insulting what they believe does hurt them.
anyway, don't know how much time ill be spending here much more, as you can see; I haven't posted in ages because of all of this. My new homepage is engadget, constant news updates and friendly people.

All the religious threads just piss everyone off. And I could swear that some members souly come here to piss others off.
I personally think this place needs to be revamped. Perhaps a new skin? Stuff like that. Up the sig limit abit etc.
It gets too Nazi around here at times.

Its not easy moderating a lot of threads because a lot of people like to whinge. People are either unhappy with the moderation, whining that its unfair and too harsh, or they rant that there is not enough moderation. Trying to find a balance between fairness for all members and allowing freedom in discussion is difficult.
Really, the site just needs more exclusive content. Just stuff that seperates it from other fan sites to attract new members.
I also think members here are often very, very critical towards new members. Having a larger community would be great, but every time a new member comes along that does not fit the standards set by many people here they get abused.
Its almost as if HLFallout has become too tight nit.

We need some exclusive stuff as you say Eat. Perhaps a Machinma starring memebers or something. Something others can see and think "Heh Thats pretty cool"
This site isnt as well known as Half-life 2 world. Most of my mates have heard of half-life 2 world, half-life 2.net, planet half-life.. But when I mention "Half-life Fallout' , They stare at me like this >

I think we've become to accustomed to the members here and it almost feels like an invasion of our territory when new users come along. It also doesn't help when these new members start bumping year old threads and have names consisting of only numbers, symbols or pop culture references (Rick James, anyone?)

The reason people come to forums in the first place is to have questions answered.

People interested in religious debates aren't going to join a Half-Life forum, and people interested in Half-Life aren't going to join a religious debate forum. Okay, we're not quite that bad yet, but the only threads that I ever see are religion, new rig builds and movies/music. What this site needs is more HL discussion, which is difficult because VALVe doesn't bloody release anything.
Back before the release of HL2 we had thread upon thread of speculation. Now whenever someone speculates on something they get automatically shut down by "old," "stupid" or "stop speculating." Sure, stupid ideas shouldn't always get threads, but we do need discussion. Over the past few weeks when I've been on here there's been me and maybe 8 members (10 atm). Possibly that's because the USA is 10 hours behind Australia and I'm asleep when all the partying happens, but I doubt it since the next day I look at the latest forums posts and they're the same topics. I wouldn't be surprised if I was still the last poster the next day.
How do we save HLF? Discuss HL or at least related stuff. We've got some very talented modelers/mappers here - just post whatever you're working on, HL or not. Feel free to start new threads about anything, except spam. If it's not a good topic, it should just disappear, no harm done. The problem we have now is if it's not a good topic Ripcurl or someone will rip into the topic starter and discourage them to post something else. Don't. At least they're doing something. Anything to generate discussion.
Here's an idea - more user interaction. For the love of God give make a new front page poll. Have some more contests - we have some great artists/musicians/modelers/etc. Get people to make an Ep1/Portal/TF2 background, remix a HL2 song, design a new weapon for Ep1, anything. And most importantly, have users vote for the best of whatever the contest was. Award the winner with a custom title. Everyone loves them, and it would help promote veteran/talented members with some recognition.
I'm just throwing ideas out here. If anyone has an idea they think is a good one, start a new thread, and see what other people think. Here's my last one - hold HLF CS matches somehow. Set a time and a place and see who turns up. Actually playing with someone is much more personal than posting in the same forum. Get some camaraderie happening. This is without a doubt to best, cleanest, deepest HL forum around, we just have no members. But we should. We're better than this.
Bottom line - think of anything, POST IT. And for everyone else, if you don't agree, you don't have to shove it in their face. Give everyone the ability to express themselves.
Back in the day there'd be about 20 new posts by the time I'd finished typing this. Now there probably won't have been any in the mean time (EDIT: there was 1). I'll be back tomorrow to see how this is going. DISCUSS!
EDIT: Oh yeah, the one thing these ideas need to succeed is visibility. We have no HL news, so why not knock up some site news? If someone has a good idea and makes a thread and people agree, put it up as a newsbit so everyone knows about it.

How about an art contest or something?

As mentioned by myself and others HLFallout is so tight that the regulars would get high respect regardless of their actions, and majority of newbies would be beat to death.
