The problem we have now is if it's not a good topic Ripcurl or someone will rip into the topic starter and discourage them to post something else.

Wow wow wow, the hell is this? If you're reffering to the kid who signed up just to 'save' his fan story until he got home (he had no interest in the fourms or discussion aout the story or anything) then the sentiment was pretty much echoed by everyone else and the topic was promptly shut down by mod staff.

Of course people instantly forget the good things, like the guy who signed up and started talking about his HL2 London modification. No-one who replyed in that topic had even read his post properly, and were putting him down saying 'you'll never get it work' blah blah blah. I came in, actully read his post, told everyone to back off, he thanked me. But stuff like that escapes everyones memory, I guess.

This site really has been going down hill recently, there are some nice guys but also lots of idiots. (It's just hit the bottom)
I'm sure the mods and staff are doing a fine job, but the idiots still prevail, flaming all the time.

There are so many insults around and most of the threads seem to be off topic. Things that keep other sites like hl2world together is the skill you see in the modders and mappers, as well as the advice they give.

There also seem to be too many religious flaming threads.
People believing what they want doesn't hurt you.
but you insulting what they believe does hurt them.

anyway, don't know how much time ill be spending here much more, as you can see; I haven't posted in ages because of all of this. My new homepage is engadget, constant news updates and friendly people.

Your tone gives me the impression that you think that your a 'veteran' of the site. e.g. 'I havnt posted in ages'
Am i suppose to now say, ok hes a member of high status, who hasnt posted in ages..we should change the site policy. This site is too close knitted, thats whats wrong with it. Anyone with a new opinion, with lets say a post count of '5' ....there opinion might aswel be useless because dweebs like you will automatically say there wrong, followed by your other group of 'veterans.' Thats why im a 'veteran' on HL2.net

Ripcurl is another so called 'veteran.' This site needs a shake up in moderators. It seems the more you post and the more opinions you bash, the better chance u have of becoming a mod. And not down to moderating skills.

I still say the site is far too close knit and narky towards new members. Its also a pretty negative community. Most people here love to debate as well. I don't think thats a bad thing, but I could see it scaring away new members.

Yeah, we get a number of wankers joining up, but way too many people are stupidly quick to judge. I've seen then "Your a n00b you don't get a say" excuse thrown around way too many times. Its nasty, because its not very polite and pretty irrelivant.

Fist step; attract new members.
Second step; get over your egos and give people a chance.

I couldnt agree more. I liked this site when it started, but it definetly has become to close knited as you say.As i said in my previous post, your opinion increases in importantness (if there is such a word) with your post count.

I think you're completely off your rocker on that one. We don't have any '*******' mods, nor ones who give special treatment to 'veteran' members.

While the days of 2004 will probably never be recreated at the current hlfallout (aaahhh, good old days when this site was hl2fallout.com), it can still improve.

yeah, I joined almost three years ago but I'm not saying that the new members are the problem, and that doesn't give me the right to.
But I think it does give me the knowledge to say how it has changed.

Hmmm, yes it seems HLfallout has hit a low. I'm sure it'll pick up soon, 'specially when episode 2 comes out. I think that yes, in a way us regulars have become very close knit, and are a bit hissy when it comes to new members. Trouble is, many of the new members have yet to prove themselves capable to contributing anything positive to this site. I guess we should try and ignore these few, welcome the rest of the newbies and give them a chance, at least a few will be awesome people I'm sure. And definitely not looking down on someone because of their state of non veteran-ness. We'll be fine I'm sure, everything has its ups and downs!
