I honestly don't see the reason why this is necessary. No need to vote posts '+' and moderators remove any posts that don't contribute to the topic.

Sometimes its nice to allow the community to regulate itself rather than just have some riot police bring down the hammer on everyone.

One cool feature that would be nice to implement is a fade-out system of comments that are low ranked, and a highlight system of the best comments. That makes it easier to get through really long threads when you don't necessarily care about what everyone says.

For example, in the far cry 2 thread, some comments are more useful and interesting than others in describing the game. It would be neat to have them stand out a little more (a'la ebay) so you can automatically catch on to them as you browse. It would be great for people who have to catch up on a thread they didn't start out in.

I agree with that notion of self-regulation unless the mod's feel they need to override things. But people should not decide whether something is against the rules based on the polls.

lol why are we even talking about this? It's never, EVER going to happen. We can't even organise a new POTD every week, let alone site content.

What's gonna happen...hell it's already happening, is that there's a consortium, if you will of certain members who all agree on something and thereby gang-post in certain threads without letting others get a word in...as though their opinion is law and must not be contradicted. Putting such a system in place will ensure that those members only give each other + and anyone who disagrees -.

The current system is fine as is, and honestly I'm not so sure I'm too hot about all the ideas floating around on how to make this site more active....the fact that it's still active is a testament to its member base. The hype about HL2 is over and done yet the site is still thriving (in a manner of speaking). Let it be.

The whole thing would just degenerate into what we have now, where posts are basically +'s, not matter how informative they are. w-ninja being the only exception, but the banhammer was invented to correct such irregularities.
