Tango Charlie, as member of a corrupt political system, you are partly responsible for this social breakdown; but so are all the rest of you who are complacent and inactive. To restate, if active, assertive, and aggressive reform is not taken, then your situation will only deteriorate.

Though elite lawmakers at capitol hill are reponsible for many of the problems we are facing today as nation, I wouldn't put the blame on a low level single individual who works for a non-profit firm that has ties with the capitol hill machinations. Tango Charlie with all his zen buddhist powers cannot stand up to the political machinery in DC and shout "JUSTICE FOR ALL!" like Al Pacino in a courtroom drama. I wouldn't.

You know, I never really wanted to grow up, I always wanted to be a Toys r'us
kid. That dream went away really fast.

Yeah, Christmas is the worst time to be looking for a job. The only people who might offer a very very slim chance of employing you are caterers and restaurants, but you always need experience. I have experience, about 3 months worth, but in these sorts of situations they're always looking for the absolute best.

I've given up for now though, at least until Christmas is over. What really pisses me off is how well people treat you when you ask if they have any jobs, you hand in a CV or an aplication form, and then you hear nothing from them. I've had my hopes raised and crushed several times now, it's actually getting to be quite funny. I went into a shop, a hot girl winked at me and flirted for several minutes when I inquired about a job, she said they were looking and that I should expect a call tomorrow. That was 2 weeks ago now, b****.

I'll just wait till Xmas is over, then get a cleaning job. Apparently someone's leaving soon, so I might stand a chance at getting that job. Still, can't complain. All my friends are back from uni in the next few days, we'll have a few brews, have a good time, I'll forget about it all and just get pissed.

I was wondering - how much can you earn in the US (or other countries) as a Mechanical Engineer? I work part time for a bus making company as a Design Engineer and after I graduate I hope to get $12,500 a year (all bonuses included, after tax = the amount that will flow to my bank account). I can hope for a 20% raise every 3-4 years.

Oh, and this is in Poland btw.

Depends on experience.

I get 64K a year as a Embedded Software Programmer with a EE Degree.

If you obtained the same job here, you would get 50-60K a year. Of course, living & dinning expenses are a bit higher here. That means, you can only buy a new car every 3-5 years...

EDIT: the only downside is that people aren't hiring as much as they used to, and being foreign makes it even harder to get in.

I'm not thinking about moving - just curiosity. If I wanted to move I would choose UK or Norway - I earned $6000 in two monts doing summer work as a waiter in Norway... 6h a day on average, one day a week free.

Plus he will have to go through the hassle of getting VISA/immigration papers sorted out, stay in Europe is what I recommend.

Edit: You also have to factor in what you want in life. Some people don't care to much about matiral possessions, some are happy living a simple life.

Dude you're lucky. I have an ECE degree (electrical computer engineering, june 2007) but I work as an IT monkey for a consulting company :( I dont have citizenship though, and immigration is definitely an isssue. They will not sponsor your application for working in US especially in this market.

Who is "we?"

Even to get in to med school you need to take a variety of highly difficult courses. I recognize that there are different types of "med" school -- I'm obviously not talking about a career in dentistry. My point is that its unlikely you will be a successful doctor if you choose to "hop on" from some other discipline because you think its going to be easier.
Actually I work for an environmental non-profit, and my undergraduate degree was in philosophy with a focus on Zen Buddhism, philosophy of mind, and phenomenology. I seriously doubt, though, that you even understand what lobbying is let alone how it works or what its benefit is.

Ignorance and cynicism! Keep living up to your name!

What is that supposed to mean? Dental school is just as difficult if not harder to get into and do well in as med school. I know I few doctors who switched professions from dental to med school because it was easier. I was planning on going to dental school until my GPA hit 3.7 and I had no chance of getting in anywhere. Its OK though I just got an interview for a job as a chemist at the navy shipyards that starts at a ridiculous amount and has full benefits.
