I've played a bit more of Payne 3 and there's two things that bother me:

The first is the only thing about the gameplay I don't like so far: the time limits in some areas. There's collectibles in the game which are either gun parts or objects Max can examine and make comments about, but there's also parts that have these and also have invisible time limits that you know about because Max is telling you to hurry up all the time if you don't enter the next room 2 seconds after clearing the one you're in. Like in the second level where if you wait around too long in an area there will be a cutscene of Max complaining about walking around in circles then you get a Game Over, then there's another where you have an ally NPC with you who scouts off ahead and if you stay in an area behind him for too long checking the environment he gets killed and you get another mission failed screen.

The second is my biggest complaint and it's about the storyline: Max is whiny and brooding to the point where you're rolling your eyes wanting him to shut up and kill himself already. Every single mission has him drinking and brooding about how pathetic his life is and every intermission has him in his apartment popping pills and drinking. There's no metaphors anywhere this time around so he ends up looking even more of a bumbling drunk manchild during cutscenes. Instead of having the storyline be about him trying to start his life over in another country and getting into shooty shooty mcshoot for whatever reason, Dan Houser Rockstar decided to retcon the ending of 2 where he got over his familiy's death (which was the entire point of the second game) and make it so he never got over it just to have a forced character driven conflict.

Other than that it's pretty good.

Urgh I hate time limits, is there a story reason why it fails you for been slow. I like to take my time looking around when I play games.

Yes there is, but it's still dumb since the environments are really well made and you want to explore them. Thankfully it doesn't happen often from what I've seen.

I always liked how smug Max looked when doing anything.

That's the face of someone who has killed 700 people in 3 days.

I remember back when the game came out we visited my cousins house and I brought Max Payne 1 over. My uncle played games and he said that Max Payne's expression on the cover looked like he was smelling some "shite" or shit for other English speaking people. I always found that funny when looking at his face in-game or on the cover.

Love how Sam Lake still does the face from time to time.

Exactly my point, he's turned from a bereaved yet intelligent, wise cracking detective with a script borrowed from 1930s hard-talking noir thrillers, to a drunken, abusive, aggressive, swearing heavyweight of a man with an identical script to any other modern blockbuster.

Everything else about Max Payne 3 I got on board with - the location, the change in appearance, the inclusion of daylight scenes, all that I agreed with. Just not the script. Other than that it was bang on target. I'd be interested to hear what Remedy or Sam Lake have to say, though I doubt they'd be entirely honest.

I'm in Chapter 7 and my storyline complaints stand up even more, this is typical Dan Houser writing: Max (the main character) has no will of his own whatsoever (like characters in GTA/RDR), he's just some moron who shoots people while others tell him what to do all the time, the moment in the storyline where he has no one to guide him he just ends up (slight story spoilers)
Spoiler
until he wanders into a location where someone finds him and tells him what to do.

In Payne 1 and 2 Max killed a lot of people and they knew who he was (especially in 1), here you kill hundreds yet no one gives a ****, there's a disconnect between the action and the storyline so far.

What is it about new games that makes them just not as fun as old games. Busy having a blast with MP1, loving the fact that despite having not progressed much through the game, my inventory is filled to brim with guns and I have slayed hundreds of crooks in the process. Also hurrah for interactive props in the environment; it's been a while.

Yeah I loved how pretty much every object lying around was interactive or destructible. I hate it when games just have static things just for decoration, if there is a beer bottle on the table it should smash if I shoot it!

I was expecting some kind of shitty remix, and let's just say I was pleasantly surprised.

Me to, now I think I like max payne 3 theme the most out of all of them. Some of the music in the first game was pretty memorable though, this one was my favourite
