I still haven't finished Fallout 3 and I have never played the first 2 games. Should I? I think there was a bundle of Fallout 1, 2 & Tactics for like €10 or so.

It's cheap, so you should try it. I played then when they first came out, so the aging doesn't bother me, but like Bundai said, as a newcomer, the aging might be a turn off. It also has a fairly steep learning curve, and the beginning parts are kind of lame. At least give them a shot until you've gotten out of the starting area and to the first outside town.

well the name gives a hint at the setting.

i dont live in the states (uk in fact) but at a wild guess, its set in vegas so the nevada desert? .. one major city surrounded by a barren wasteland. i mean even without a nuclear war, that desert im guessing is pretty barren as it is today, so it would probably be extra gruesome in the fo world.

sounds like it will be interesting, i really hope they keep going with the fallout universe, all the games make excellent playing, i for one, wasnt overly shocked with FO3, it was good, but it swayed too much from the originals imo, sure it kept some gimmicky elements, but it didnt feel the same. although i first played fo2 when i was about 12 or 13 so my imagination was alot more wild than it is now, its a bit like christmas i guess you just lose the joy of it when you get older, FO has suffered the same for me, playing fo2 really felt epic. FO3 just felt like playing oblivion with guns like alot of ppl have said in many forums i bet.

maybe they can breath some more life into this next one. give it a good story to follow but also keep that element of non-linear gameplay, in Fo2 sure you had to go look for the geck, but you dont really end up getting anywhere near it untill you've 1) become a slaver or owned them all 2) got the car 3) pwned new reno because its fun 4) slayed the whole raider camp 5) ran the caravan over and over untill the starter NPC gets owned 6) tryed taking all the heavily fortified towns like vault city or NCR and maybe even 7) tryed collecting the best npc mercs to help you own the enclave base (and theres way more side-fun to be had, not to even mention random encounters and traversing the land). i just felt there was so much more fun to be had without even going anywhere near the main story with FO2 than fo3 to me (only completed fo3 once, i felt like the game really forced me to actually hit the main story/mission rather than give me the freedom to go roam around and find somthing cool to do otherwise, i was pretty pissed when i completed the game and it didnt let me carry on exploring the game! i found it completely retarded when the supermutant wouldnt complete the ending senario considering hes completely immune to radiation pfft talk about bullsh*t forced endings) sure there was a raider camp and quite a few more vaults to run around but it felt very empty, i didnt find much in the way of various factions/towns to own or help with fo3 ... basically, if they bring them fun elements from fo1-2 into a new gen game, it makes it seem alot less linear. and would probably be a much better success to all the classic FO'ers.

edit: i dont really mind turn based or realtime, i still play jagged alliance 2 with the 1.13 mod, i love the genre either way nothing about the playstyle influenced my mindset on fo3, i just hope they expand a bit, add more features, remove the linear main story form and mix things up a bit more.

TL;DR should be worth a play, i hope they bring back more fallout and lose some oblivion in this next one :P

just a side note. Morrowind had something that Oblivion did not. Spells/scrolls that were amazing!! I'm talking fly up the clouds and run around real quick and stuff like that. the next Elder Scrolls should have more extreme spells that put a big smile on your face. I know Oblivion sucked 150 hrs out of my life, but it was very fun too.

Now with Fallout 4 or whatever they're calling it, I'm hoping they add a little bit more fluid motions and actions. everytime you shoot or attack it felt clunky, kinda like Oblivion and Morrowind. they need to update some of that.

This just sounds like it's going to be a huge DLC pack charged full price.

I just hope this one doesn't crash on me 30 times each day.
360 version froze my console and the PC version threw me back to desktop countless times.
Buggy ******* Bethesda games.

Obsidian is the main developer, not Bethesda AFAIK. So most likely it will be a completely different game than Fallout 3. Atleast I understood it that way. I had a crapload of problems with Fallout 3 PC as well.

Obsidian give me some hope. Bethesda still involved do not.

We'll see.

I seem to be with the majority here. As an old timer (getting close to the big 30) I remember Fallout 1 and 2 extremely fondly. Like erotica fondly.

While fallout 3 wasn't bad it wasn't fallout. The humor for one was no where near up to par. Decent FPS with some RPG type elements but it wasn't fallout.

Fallout: New Vegas début trailer

As with other début trailers, it doesn't show anything, is slow and kind of enticing.

As long as it isn't running on that piece of shit engine that Bethesda seems so attached to this game will own.
