Meh, not really needed in my opinion. Nothing I saw really made me go "Wow". I enjoyed the semi realism of the first one where you had a small selection of realistic weapons and that was it. Made it more fun pretending to be in a real zombie apocalypse. Fire bullets and frying pans makes it seems so much more outlandish, which I'm not really liking.

The only problem I can see is that this new 'day' map completely avoids all of the awesome lighting suspense that was so carefully crafted in the first one. The map looks very flat and mod-like, and all those desaturated colors are completely gone. I don't know why, but I can't help thinking of a tony hawk level when I see these videos.

so I guess the zombies were realistic enough that they didn't add anything to the "outlandish" aspect of it?

Not all campaigns have daytime maps. Weather effects play a big role too. One campaign starts out partly cloudy-sunny and gets more cloudy and thunderous later on, and weather effects such as rainstorm/fog can completely blind you (ala cornfield in Bloodharvest, no player outlines) be it daytime or night. I think its a good addition. Tired of zombie games all set during midnight.

Also, brand new multiplayer mode to be announced during Summer (presumably, PAX '09)

What has me disappointed is the fact that valve is putting left 4 dead before other projects. I would have loved to see a portal 2 or an ep3 or an entirely new game even (wishful thinking i know). Its just that I'm uninterested. I still have fun with l4d and the tf2 content makes me just want more content for l4d. Survival mode was alright, but nothing special. 1 new campaign mode would have gotten me more excited than i was when i heard l4d2 was being released. I just hope that when it comes out I don't feel cheated. I don't want to play it and feel l4d1. Valve isn't like that to me. Every time they have put out a sequel they change something and make it better. Right now it just looks like left 4 dead with more stuff stuck to it. How players play the game wont change.

I'm also really worried that its going to be too over the top. Incendiary bullets, for me, is pushing it and it has me worried about the other types of ammunition and weapons. I'm not trying to run through the streets of a town with a ******* laser rifle, a zombie apocalypse should be confined to todays reality, by that i mean the only fantasy/scifi/etc. element i want is zombies.

$5 says that it gets released in a pack like the orange box. Hopefully with ep3. Then i have nothing to ******* about whatsoever.
