To Benwalker; That is if the software isnt updated, with most likelyness something will be deleted once the forums are upgraded and possibly moved.

As long as the majority is there I really don't care, some of the older stuff could be done with being lost anyway. Plus read Mutley's last post, it seems that you're talking out of your arse.

HLF shouldnt lose its history, and yes, why dont we take a look at his last post. He states that it will be easy to move posts, which either means he is gonna move the forum as a whole, which means that things will be lost, or that he is gonna upgrade the forum software, something which, as far as I recall, he said he wasnt gonna do.

I voted no because I have been so used to the layout of HLF, but if the majority says yes I am fine with that. Bring it on. :) also, I have a small penis

To all those voting that they want a overhaul, you should be ashamed of yourself, your signing HLFs doom. And hasnt 4 years, for the majority of us anyways, of serving you been good enough to keep it the way it is?

Oh come on! Stop whining. What makes HLF is its users and threads, not the skin and all that. It has been stated many times already that atleast most of the threads and subforums will be moved to the possible new forum.

Yes because people posting "LOL DICKS1!One1!!1!" and flaming eachother certainly is what makes HLF.

And if you think thats what makes up HLF, then that will also change. Just looking at the IRC channel the general mood in there has changed a ******* ton since three days ago.

Boo ******* hoo! Cry me a river.

What they are basically saying is that the old site software isn't up to speed, for easy use and adding new features. So rather then going through the cumbersome and (potentially) problematic road of trying to adapt/update the current they'll start from scratch.
If this is the best road to take for a better working site, than I say let's do it. HLF is not going to die. Everything that makes any community site is the community itself. The rest is secondary at most.

If you think the community, which consists of no more than 40-50 people at any given time makes up HLF, and not the history with such things as Gabes hacked account, then you clearly have no ******* idea what keeps the forums running.

You're overreacting. It is the people that make HL Fallout...not the forum skin or how it looks.

No posts will be lost. I doubt a new site design will deviate too much from the clean feel ethos, and so what will change? We'll be more desirable a site to join is the answer and we'll get new users in to help compliment who's here already.

HLF will either have to adapt and change, or it will die. I've always loved this site design. I think Besim did a stand-up job on it and it is difficult to imagine the place without it. But I think we need to move onto something new. Besides, there can always be a middle ground where users can change the skin from default (a new look) in their user control - the old skin could always be adapted with some changes for forum use only, should you wish to view the forum in that format, instead of the default (new look format).

Chill guys, I don't want anyone to get pissed off with all this.

Berrie got it spot on.

As I said OVER and OVER, this will be a community influenced site, I won't be doing it on my own or making over-night wtf changes.

Sure a big part of that is history and they already said they could easily copy the post and such over the a "new design". A bit of loss is to be expected but I hope they will be extra careful with something as the fake gold craze.

Also, though the history is what attracted a lot of people, Gabe's hacked account probably doesn't give us many (at least lasting) new members.
Sure it deserves it place in HLF-history but to think that it actually thrives the community at this moment is wrong. It is certainly not what keeps me coming back and I bet many others will agree with me on that one.

Well, everyone is afraid of change, and I like HLF the way it is...mostly because I'm so used to it.

However, I think that the site could do with a redo, get rid of the archaic structures, of the dusty dead links etc.
HLF should be more than just a forum, although the forums are it's life and soul.
Now is the perfect time to do this change, with the symbolism of new management and all.

One point that I do find important is to keep the general aesthetic of HLF, it's really what sets it apart, the clear, light, faded look is still sexy.

That's what attracted me to the site, the soft look and feel it. While it's painfully obvious that a lot of work needs to be done, some things should probably be left alone.

This thread is insanely active. The forums as well. We should have changed dictators years ago.
