Just picked up the PS3 standard edition. Hopefully this game isn't another dissappointment.

I have to say I'm incredibly impressed by this game. I wasn't even gonna get it cause I was so disappointed by the first. The only reason I did pick it up was I could get it for $20(see gamestop deal).

It's a million times better, they fixed almost everything wrong with the first game. This might even be a contender for game of the year. If you're on the fence definitely pick it up.

Indeed. "improvement" is an understatement to describe AC2. I'm 5 hours in, and haven't repeated a single mission type save for beating fools up (because its incredibly fun) and the regular assassinations themselves (which are each varied from previous one).

I'm loving the hell out this game. Assassins creed may be a new favorite franchise for me, and I did NOT feel that way playing the first one. They better let me free roam after the credits though....I will be so pissed if they don't.

This feels like the time when AC1 was released.
Everyone was shouting GOTY, until they got to the latter half of the game.
Once finished, it was "a repetitive piece of *******".

AC1 bored me to tears, and since i've read a few reviews that claim 2 is pretty much more of the same, i'm not gonna buy this.
I trust a 8/10 review more than a 10/10 GOTY Editor's Choice one.

? Isn't an eight considered to be really good on a scale from one to ten? A reviewer giving a game such a score seems like it would be very enjoyable.

I'm not saying 8 is bad.
I just expect 8/10 reviews to have a better critical analysis.

Really? What reviews are you reading?

This game is the polar opposite of AC 1 to me. I had zero hype going in and unlike the first game it actually starts off a little slow but then it just keeps building and building and getting better and better. I'm about 7 hours in and I haven't been bored in the least.

Two years later, Assassin's Creed tries again to make real those promises from Ubisoft, and prove itself as a better game than it was. The truth is that, despite the Renaissance setting, the vivid locations and the historical landmarks, the new features added don't really improve the sequel: the same repetitive mechanics remain, as the flawed enemy AI, a rough combat system and moments of frustration coming from issues with the camera and the control response in the platform sections. Assassin's Creed II it's still a good game but far from the masterpiece Ubisoft has been promising.

But this isn't a reinvention, it's a refinement. Assassin's Creed II offers, fundamentally, the same kinds of thrills as its predecessor--leaping from rooftop to rooftop with surefooted ease, appearing out of nowhere to kill your target with a quick blade, then vanishing effortlessly into a crowd. It's just been expanded, streamlined, and overhauled in ways that bring it closer to grace and make it a much easier game to recommend.

Well, I was amongst the few who enjoyed AC1 from beginning to end (not counting that dreadful "final boss" stage).

So it'sreally all I'd hoped for...well in theory, I haven't gotten around to playing it yet, since I'm pretty much a PC only gamer.

What do you only read metacritic summaries of reviews?

from the giant bomb review you quoted

Quote

After an uneven start, the Assassin's Creed series is finding its footing in its second chapter. The original was an imperfect gem, a game with more heady concept and spark than staying power--qualities that, frankly, make it the ideal candidate for a more potent sequel. It would seem that the developers at Ubisoft Montreal have put considerable thought into how to bring some color and depth to the detailed and occasionally brilliant sketch work provided by the original Assassin's Creed, and that effort has paid off generously.

and the other one was from a English summary on metacritic of a spanish site no ones ever heard of. I can't read the actual review because its entirely in Spanish.

Seriously if you want to hate a game you've never played go ahead and do it but the reviews are overwhelmingly positive. http://www.metacriti...topslot;title;1
