What is Scribblenauts?

Let this first hand experience summerise it for you;

Quote

I had played all the big titles at E3. Private showings of God of War III, Heavy Rain, Alan Wake. But at 4:00 on Thursday, I was wandering around the show floor, wondering what else I had to see. I saw a small little booth for "Scribblenauts!" in the Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment section. I mean, who goes to that booth? But I remember hearing about it on GAF, and so I decided to check it out.

Best game of E3? Without a ******* doubt. Anyone who says otherwise did not play Scribblenauts. Best game of all time? Jesus Christ, I don't know, maybe. It's a game that challenges your IMAGINATION. No other game has ever done that.

So listen to this story. I was in the early levels; I didn't quite have an idea of how ridiculously in-depth the database was. I was summoning things like ladders, glasses of water, rayguns, what have you. But I reached a level with zombie robots, and the zombie robots kept killing me. Rayguns didn't work, a torch didn't work, a pickaxe didn't work. In my frustration, I wrote in "Time Machine". And one popped up. What the *******? A smile dawned on my face. I hopped in, and the option was given to me to either travel to the past or the future. I chose past. When I hopped out, there were ******* dinosaurs walking around. I clicked one, and realized I could RIDE THEM. So I hopped on a ******* DINOSAUR, traveled back to the present, and stomped the ******* out of robot zombies. Did you just read that sentence? Did you really? I ******* TRAVELED THROUGH TIME AND JUMPED ON A DINOSAUR AND USED IT TO KILL MOTHER*******ING ROBOT ZOMBIES. This game is unbelievable. Impossible. There's nothing you can't do.

Holy ******* *******.

Scribblenauts is the latest creative puzzle game from 5th Cell. Exclusive to the DS, Scribblenauts pits you against your own imagination. In each level your duty is to collect a star. How to get that star is entirely up to you. Using the power of words, nearly anything you write down will manifest in the level as a tool, allowing nearly unlimited solutions to levels.

Objective; get the girls cat off the roof. Sure, you could summon a ladder and climb up, but wouldn't it be more exciting to use a jetpack? Hey, maybe you'd prefer to summon an arsonist, who will burn the house down, getting the cat to the ground.

Levels come in two catagories; action and puzzle. Action levels usually allow you to see where the star is, and simply ask that you get it in your grasp. Puzzle levels give you a hint as to a specific task that must be completed before the star will be rewarded.

With over 200 levels, an in built level editor and WiFi level sharing, as well as plenty of secret memes and jokes to discover, all wrapped up in one of the most original gaming ideas in years, Scribblenauts looks to be a game for the history books.

I've been waiting for this game for ages!

Most of the games made by this studio are greatly inventive, I think I've played them all, but this one, I'm sure will be the crown jewel of their lineup.

I'll probably do what I did with GTA:Chinatown with this game, buy it, torrent it, and play the pirated version because it's so much more convenient having all games on one cartridge...the DS is weird in that way.

That's how I tend to work. The games are fantastic and the developers more than deserve my money, plus I actually like to pay for things I enjoy and support the industry, but when it comes to real playtime I prefer to have a bunch of games organised on a single cart. It's a portable system, and this way I dont have to worry about loosing games.

Sigh, this game alone is almost enough to get me to buy a DS.

Sadly I wouldn't use it for enough else, so I'll just scab shots at it off one of my mates, I guess. The question is: can you summon Jimmy Bartel?

Yes I stole your stamp, yes this forum should have a float attribute. Also, I wonder if you could win the entire game JUST by using onions? If you needed something a little more sophisticated maybe you could spawn Onions and give him some onions.

Though it's kind of dead too.

Game looks so much fun. As soon as I saw the screenshots I wanted to buy myself a new DS Lite. Though I'm still waiting for it to drop below €100 before getting one again.

Better happen fast cuz' I still need to finish Tony Hawk American Sk8land and MP: Hunters.

No, but you can make a giraffe wear a top hat.

I'm not sure, but I think there's a limit on the number of uses for each object, to prevent people from just using "jetpack" over and over again. or maybe that's on option.

PS: let's have sex and make little onion pies.

This game rocks so hard. I just shot a bear with an RPG and then for no reason I summoned a portal. A friendly alien came out then i made another portal so he could go back home but a monster jumped out and killed the alien so I had to hurry up and get a rifle and shoot it to death.

Oh, so people already have the "naughty version"

I've been wondering, can you summon a companion cube?

I'll most likely be picking this up.

The videos alone sold me on it.

Typing in LHC summons a Large Hadron Collider. Using it causes it to break and summon a black hole, which then destroys the level.

Awesome.
