We always get quality and if it's delayed they probably think it's not up to snuff.
But it's been two years since the last episode and I don't expect Episode 3 to come near Half-Life 2 in size (full game doesn't really convey it anymore these days).
Not to mention that they've been working on it before Episode 2 finished.

To be honest, I just wish they focused more on ep3 than any other project at the moment.

Maybe put some of the tf2 and l4d team on the ep3 project and hopefully get it out this year. If not i can wait but its about time it came out.

I hear what you are saying neva. Im not saying that EP1 or 2 were not enjoyable. The gaming experience was excellent as with all other Valve games. I just would rather have a full version, like the length, battles, and storyline of HL2. As for what they call the next game I don't really care as long as its good. Which I'm sure it will be.

I am standing by my prediction that they are creating another package like "The Orange Box" and are waiting for something else to get finished before they announce anything. Whether it be Portal 2, Counter-Strike 2 or something else, I just have a feeling that there is another game being worked on we don't know about. I can't imagine they are working on JUST TF2/L4D2 support and Episode Three.

I wonder if they are a bit hosed since Kim Swift left? Probably not but hmm.

I don't know why this is everyone's fallback argument whenever Valve's inability to release a game on time is brought up. People aren't upset with Valve for taking their time to make a polished experience (who would be?), but the community was lead to believe that they would be getting some kind of information on Episode 2 a year ago, and now all we have is a complete media blackout. Having other franchises see a year turn around for another sequel also doesn't help the community's perception of the problem.

They're only one person down on the original Portal team, so there still is the majority of the creative team still there to work on a possible sequel.

I just want Valve to comment something on EP3. Like how the development is going, if they will add some new technical eye-candy, some hints on the storyline or whatever. But I didn't like EP1/EP2 that much so I'd be very greatful if EP3 would bring us lots of new stuff and gameplay mechanics. Doubt it will happen, but time will tell I guess.

On topic: A rumour that says that EP3 won't be released in 2010? Wouldn't surprise me. But then I'd be extremely disappointed if EP3 was "just another" episode without anything special.

What's Game Informer's source on this info? Was this a statement from Valve or just a rumor that they're propagating?

Here's hoping that in all this time they've beefed up the source engine to the point of it being unrelatable to previous HL's..
Either that, or possibly built an entirely new engine..

Doubtful on either counts I'm afraid.

New engine is out of the question. It's rather silly to make an entirely new one for an Episode whose previous parts were in the Source engine.

That said, the team behind City17: Episode 1 showed you can pimp the engine quite a bit for some cool effects. So they might end up putting all lot of new effects and stuff in.
