I'm planning on buying a new laptop (hopefully before this current laptop dies on me), this laptop I'm using now has had continuous problems from the day I got it, and it's main problem was the graphics card (ATI X1250 or something).

Anyway I've been looking at Sony Vaios since my brother and friend have got one, and they've had no problems with them and they look like quite good machines, in fact my brother has had a problem with his but it was nothing major just something that sony had put on it which was easily fixed by reinstalling windows 7 clean.

So yeah I've been looking at Sony Vaios on their website and customising them playing about and have come to what I think is a pretty good set up (which means nothing because I know very little about hardware and what not) so would you take a look at comment on what you think?

As for tasks, I want it for gaming and work, but obviously gaming wise it's gonna be somewhat difficult so I'm not all that bothered by what spec the games run at just as long as they run.

Games;
Arma 2
Dragon Rising (Yes I realise its not all that good but still)
AVP 3
GTA4
Borderlands
Far Cry 2
Fallout 3
Mass Erect 2

Unfortunately it does have to be a laptop I can't use a desktop what with work and that, but if you've got another laptop that might be better and around that price range then please show :D
thanks :)

get a laptop with an i5 or i7. core 2 duo is on its way out and performance and battery life will be better. the ati 4650 is among the best mobile video cards for non-full sized systems, but the nvidia 130, 230 and 330 are all roughly equal. good luck.

Yeah I had plans for an i7 laptop (it used the actual desktop processor aswell because the people making it couldn't be assed to wait for it to be released) but yeah it costs like £2,000 and the battery life was about an hour :P

I will keep looking for one with an i7 (got a bit to wait till I can order it) wander if Sony plan to put i5s/i7s in their laptops :3

I thought that the 3-4week time was because it's a custom laptop but yeah some other sites don't seem to be able to do it quickly :/

I'm thinking of getting one of those new Dell Studio laptops at Best Buy.

The Dell laptop I have now is like 5 years old. An Inspiron 8600. It's pretty whack nowadays and I can tell the processor is getting flogged. However, right now I don't even know what I need a laptop for. I just use the internet mostly. I hardly game on this and when I do they're really old games. The only technical work I do on it is video editing and it sucks for that because it's so slow. For gaming I have my 360 but would still like to have power in a laptop if I wanted to game. Problem is you can't change the video card. The only time my laptop was mobile was for school, but since I have my degree, mobility is a rarity. Woe is me. And Macbooks are way too expensive.

...and uhh, Paul Allen. I killed Paul Allen with an axe..in the face. His body is dissolving in a bathtub in Hell's Kitchen.

theres a lot of custome shops out there that will and can do it for less. if not look in your phone book or online database for local shops, walk in and ask them how much they run for. custom rigs shouldn't take that long to get, imagine trying to contact them to get a part, you'll be out of a laptop for even longer i bet. also you'd be surprised what newegg.com or tigerdirect.com has. i don't know if they do the UK but give em a whirl
