Hey folks, I've got another question for the good ole H&S forum.

I've got an old PC sitting around around with 2.2Ghz Celeron, 1 gig of ram and 250 gig of space. So my question for you HLF is what should I do with the PC? So far I've gotten sell it from HotGore and turn it into a media server from Reddington. Any others?

take out the hard drive, get a hard drive to usb adapter (these are usually 7$ or less), and you've got yourself a portable/external hard drive.
that's what i did with my old laptop.

I don't see what you would use it for.

Send it to me so I can add it to my Beowulf cluster for BOINC work.

If you're willing to buy a TV capture card you can turn it into a DVR too

Eh I'd say donate it to Goodwill or the Salvation Army. You never know who really could use a PC

Look Azle, the PC is best to be used by people who cant really afford PCs.

Do not use it as a media/file server, for one, you will waste countless hours trying to set it up right, and two, its a massive power consumption for a full blown PC to work as a server without it being regularly used.

I really haven't had much reasons to use a file server beyond hobby experiments. Either I use my 500 gig usb hard drive, or I uploaded on the clouds for retrieval from any computer.

Give it to someone who needs the internets, it will be good for your karma.

Ya, be a good karma boy, donate it, or sell it cheap.

If you want to turn it it into a media server, the idea will hover on the edge of your mind for a while, and you'll never get around to actually doing it right.
If at first you don't succeed, you fail, so just get rid of the thing.

Alternative:
Got any relatives with kids who could use some nerd training?
Install openBSD on it and give it to them, in only a few years, a monster will have emerged.
