Valve: Xbox Live 'such a train wreck'

You might ask yourself, "Why has Valve switched their console love towards the PS3 after so many hateful slanders?" The answer is quite simple my dear readers, because XBOX Live sucks.

Quote

"We thought that there would be something that would emerge, because we figured it was a sort of untenable... Oh yeah, we understand that these are the rules now, but it's such a train wreck that something will have to change.
Microsoft has refused to change the way developers update their games over Live, only allowing one (1!) free update or none at all. That is why every DLC Valve has released on the XBOX 360 has had a price tag attached to it while the PC versions get their updates for free. So Valve has found solace in Sony Online, which allows them to pump out update after update much like they do on the PC.

They're not the only ones who have run into problems with Microsoft's demands regarding LIVE. If I recall correctly Epic wanted the Gears of War map packs to be free updates, but Microsoft stomped all over that.

Good for them. Glad to see at least SOMEONE is resisting their tyranny.

My Live is running out at the end of this year.

I don't plan on renewing it. Ever since I've gotten back to gaming on my computer, I just don't see the point anymore of it.

I very rarely play games on any consoles anymore, and even more rarely play console games online. At this point, the only reason why I still have Live is for Netflix. Although, I do prefer Live over the PSN, except that MS requires developers charge for everything.

Well this makes sense. Also, GTFO my gaming, consoles! PC 4 lyphe...and Valve knows where its heart lies.
You're bound to run into problems when the manufacturer has monopoly on content distribution.

I think MS totally justified in not allowing their network to be more open. I mean look at what happened the last time they let a developer bypass their strict guidelines:

And it's only gotten worse. The game is virtually unplayable after about 15 or 20 minutes because there are so many people hacking and there is nothing that can be done about it.

You will spend more time quitting games to find clean rooms only to have a someone come in and **** it all up after maybe 1 round.

Have you even played MW2 this year?
I haven't seen a hacked game like that one in about 6 months, IceOrb.
I'll see the occasional player with a modded colorful name, but hacks / modded servers are very seldom seen, at least for me and my buddies that is.

Played it two days ago and it took maybe 30 minutes before we couldn't NOT get into hacked rooms. And months before that we had the same problem.

The fact that it is a problem at all, whether it be a small one for you or a big one like it is for me and the group I play with, is a ridiculous notion to begin with given how Xbox Live is suppose to be a locked down network that prevents that shit.

Worst thing you see in other shooters is people using Turbo controllers or using silly exploits to clip out of a level. I'm sure if there was actually anything left of IW the game would get patched up but now it's just a train wreck.

I've played MW2's MP for 20 hours on the PC and only saw a handful of hackers.

IW was able to bypass some of the guidelines for the network?

I regret buying that game more and more every day.

Yeah, and Steam is so much better, having to be online everytime I want to play a game. Talk about stones and glass houses.

Gaming is a sad state of affairs these days. Especially with things like these.
