The entire thing just totally came out of left field and ended on a literal Deus Ex Machina. It's so completely non-nonsensical that they might as well added: "a space-wizard did it".
Not only that, but what happened is such a major change that all the things you accomplished during the game probably get thrown out of the window because of it.

I'll also add that all those war assets you collected don't actually influence the war one iota. It's nothing more than a number which determines how much damage the Wizard does to earth and which color of explosion you can choose between... I seem to be missing the factor that combines those assets to the power of your magic space wand.

Video game writing is mostly braindead shit (like most writing, see: most movies, books, comics) and it will keep being so. Good writing only tends to come from writers who aren't too busy thinking their farts smell of roses like Bioware.
