It looks like that.

The fan is making a whole lot of noise. Tried cleaning it, didn't work. Stuck my finger in it and it stopped, the computer was completely quiet without it.

I want to unplug it (because I got a fan for my Intel processor and two case fans already) and wait for Asus to get back to me, but the wire is connected in this tight spot that I can't seem to get it out of. Not sure if there is some sort of mechanism that needs to be pushed to unplug it, but it's just not budging.

Any advice? I just want this fan to stop running at this point because it's REALLY annoying.

Update: Tried tweezers which only managed to slip off the plug. Don't have pliers small enough.

This seems helpful but I am still not sure how I will go about doing it. Don't have a great tool for this.

I am half considering cutting the wire or sticking a piece of tape into (or onto) the fan to stop it from spinning. It's THAT annoying. My lack of knowledge of circuits/gears and how they could effect the rest of the motherboard is keeping me from going that far.

really not a good idea to stop or remove this fan. i assume its on the motherboards chipset. and if that burns up then you are out of a motherboard.

What motherboard model do you have?

Looks kind of like a slot fan that fills a pci slot. If it is you can just go out and get a new one.

looks like this one

this is a fan that fills a pci slot

They both say optional, and your motherboard looks like it already has great cooling. As long as you have a fan somewhere in your case blowing on those heatsinks, you should be fine.

Okay, that's what I thought.

I cannot remove it the correct way because I had someone do some cable managing in my case and the cable is wrapped around the heat sink making it impossible to yank the plug out and the plug is in such a tight spot I can't get two fingers on it to press the right buttons to release the wire.

Now, does anyone think it would be a bad idea to either A: Stop the fan with tape till I can get a replacement or B: Cut the wire to remove it? I see those as the only two options till I can order a new one because the sound is way too annoying to let sit there.

Borrow some needle-nose pliers from someone to extract it. If you keep the blades stopped long enough while it's still getting power it might do nothing or it might eventually short out and cause you more grief.

Have had nothing but bad experiences with wires raped around or near heat sinks. Its not the heat, but a lot of them have sharp edges where you won't expect, or can see. It only takes a little copper to copper contact to screw something up.

Either, just find the end of the fan and unplug it for now. I see a little 3 or 4 pin connector on that fan.
