So this is pretty awesome huh? Sony is taking this so seriously that it waits a week to tell you that they may have given away all your details you put in PSN including your credit card information. Not sure why they are taking so long to get their act together telling people about this, but just out of interest: how many hlfallout members are caught up in all this?

I enabled 2-step security on my gmail account just to be safe.

But ya this is pretty bad.

The real issue is that Sony waited a week to come forward and address that they fucked up.

Here is an article detailing the situation: http://www.shacknews...ser-data-hacked

From the article I posted it seems like the entirety of their database has been compromised.

Quote

Although we are still investigating the details of this incident, we believe that an unauthorized person has obtained the following information that you provided: name, address (city, state, zip), country, email address, birthdate, PlayStation Network/Qriocity password and login, and handle/PSN online ID. It is also possible that your profile data, including purchase history and billing address (city, state, zip), and your PlayStation Network/Qriocity password security answers may have been obtained.

If you have provided your credit card data through PlayStation Network or Qriocity, out of an abundance of caution we are advising you that your credit card number (excluding security code) and expiration date may have been obtained.

They got hold of passwords? Do they actually mean the passwords or the hashes...surely they've hashed the passwords at least. If not then no wonder they got screwed over if they haven't done even the first step to securing the data.

I remember hearing long ago that the PSN stores all important data in plain text.

Maybe someone can confirm this.

Yep, all plain text.

I don't have a PS3 or Sony account, but it's just mind-boggling how huge of a failure this is on Sony's part.

I guess I'm lucky that I could never figure out how to change my credit card information a couple years ago to update it. So at least I don't have to worry about them having access to that...

I really don't remember if I've added my CC info ages ago or not, boo. I guess I'll just continue using my PS3 to steam movies from my computer.

I wonder how long it will take lawyers to line up to start a lawsuit against Sony. I'd support one especially if Sony not only didn't take proper precautions to prevent an intrusion, but had users' information in plain text. I'm worried that they were in plain text, simply because Sony hasn't said to everyone "Hey, don't worry too much as your information was hashed." In addition, they've already warned people to change their CC's as a precaution - almost sounds like they don't know how much information was taken, or they do and are trying to prepare for the shit-storm that is about to ensue.

To all those saying "they waited a week" considering the investigation is being handled by an outside firm, I highly doubt Sony waited a week to tell you all your personal information has been jacked.

When it involves them loosing pretty much all your information I am sure they knew about it sooner than yesterday. Even if they somehow only just found out they were appallingly slow at explaining what was going on.

Also sucks for PSN devs to.
