So. I switched my Steam from my shitty 80 GB hard drive to my 320 GB. After doing that, went to sign in, told I had to use activation code. No activation code. No e-mail. Locked out of Steam and all my games. This is BS and Steam isn't helping me. Please tell me someone's dealt with this before.

Well did you follow the instructions on screen? junk mail folder etc. ?

If that didn't help, did you try it all over again, to get a new code via e-mail?
Are you sure you're checking the right e-mail?

Followed their instructions, checked -all- my e-mails, had it resent easily seven times, haven't even gotten dust. I sent an e-mail to Steam about it via their customer support and provided my primary e-mail for them to reply to but I doubt I'll hear from them soon.

Meanwhile I'm out 300$ in games.

Also. I tried moving it back and trying again, I've tried their final guide on deleting everything except the .exe and the steamapps folder, then re-got everything, I've tried starting a new account with the steamapps folder in there, and I've tried resetting my password and logging in. But it still tells me I need a code to use Steam on a new computer despite the fact I'm using it from the exact same one.

Don't despair, your games haven't vanished into thin air, they're just locked away for safe keeping.
Steam customer support will sort this out sooner or later. It's a shitty situation, but it'll get resolved, don't worry.

EDIT: I cant help you much, all I can suggest is to wait for valve to respond, you must understand that they have to go through thousands of support tickets until they get to yours. Give it a week or two more...

I had a feeling people may have this issue. Maybe Valve should turn off Steam Guard by default. I like the idea of it but if it was not on by default I would not have activated it. On that note I would like to leave instructions on how to turn it off for future reference. Hopefully it can help people who are upgrading their rigs in the future avoid this ...

Steam > Settings > Manage Steam Guard Account Security...

From here you can turn Steam Guard off. I think you can turn if off, install Steam on a new PC then turn it on but I have not tested it yet. I will try it ASAP. I know this does not help now but I hope it may help others that may view this thread in the future.

Also did you email them or submit a "Support Ticket"

There are details here that may help you.

If you don't have access to the email address that is currently associated with your Steam Account please provide proof of purchase within your ticket.
