What do you guys think of transhumanism? I discovered it semi-recently myself and am now a pretty hardcore transhumanist. In layman's terms it's humanity controlling our own destiny and steering the course of human evolution. We do this through augmentations of various kinds, such as mechanical augmentations, nanotechnology, human-AI merging, development of a hive mind, and the transfer of consciousness from flesh to machine. I suspect that we'll see transhumanism really go mainstream in our lifetimes, and we should be relatively young, I suspect most of us will be in our 20s by the time it hits (probably in the 2020s). Here's a video if you want to watch it explaining transhumanism, unfortunately it's biased and the guy who made the video hates transhumanists and is trying to stop the future (and failing at it), but it's the most informative video I could find for teaching non-transhumanists about transhumanism and the video itself isn't all that biased.

Most of us are already in our 20s here, so if it hits in the 2020s, most of us will be in our 30s.

I think there was a different thread about this, also, featuring a series of videos about some tweaked out chick doing a lecture at some college.

This would open a whole can of worms that I'd rather not get involved in and would make me feel more dependent on the system. For example, let's just say you had nanobots put in you that made you impervious to illness. What would you do if your nanobots were hit with an EMP of some kind? Would your body be able to handle having them disabled or would you go through a withdrawal? Maybe your body would get really sick because your immune system has been trained to be lazy because the nanobots kept you healthy. I'd rather be the best I can be naturally.

Nano-bots don't work that way Reddington.

A nano-bot is nothing more than a smart molecule. It needs to be very specific (in regards to the binding site of your cells) for whatever purpose you want to use it for and just releasing a few in your blood stream isn't going to last you forever.
Also they'd be as susceptible as your own body to EM-pulses. Meaning if the power is high enough to damage the bots, it will probably damage your cells.

As for transhumanism, I don't know if I would count myself as one. I'm more inclined to count myself a neo-evolutionist.

The Omar laugh, collectively, at your flying car in the harsh post-apocalyptic future to which we will adapt.

Then we'll kick your body out and take it for ourselves, just like the solar system.
