Two ways to make this a winner: Get exclusives (which they've already done), and give deals on the level that VALVE does. Bitches love deals.

Simple, it has to bring something compelling, something that Steam doesnt offer that gamers want just to be competitive, otherwise, its dead on arrival.

This will just enable more pirates is all. It was dead before they even began brainstorming the project.

It's been clear since your first post that you're personally not willing to give this thing a chance. Can't blame you, as Steam is the greatest thing since sliced bread.

Yes. Actually, I prefer Steam to sliced bread.

I'm not gonna give something a chance just because it's new.

EA "reclaimed" Crysis 2 and now it's exclusive on ORIGIN (so it's not available anymore on Steam from now on)

Battlefield 3 and Mass Effect 3 will also not make a Steam appearance as EA announced them to be ORIGIN exclusive as well.

Please say you're kidding.

Do we know if Origin is required to play the games or is it simply for the purchasing/downloading of games?

Omg. I'm totally going for retail if that's the case. Even if you have to register on Origin to be able to play. EA used to have some download limits so I'm not taking any chances (like you can download for one year, then it's gone).

Edit: Do you have a source for this information? Can't find any info online.

Looks like they're going to lock up on digital distribution choice. Such a shame.
I was hoping it wouldn't come to this, but considering Valve games are only distributed on-line via Steam, I can't fault EA the same.

EDIT: I wonder if other publisher are eying it in the hopes of following suit. I can't imagine the kind of hell that would be needing 6 different accounts from different publishers.

I guess I won't be getting Crysis 2 then. I was waiting for the DX11 patch before purchasing it, but it doesn't interest me enough to create an account with Origin.

Steam, OnLive, EA Store, iTunes Store, Google Apps, Amazon Apps, Windows Live for Games. This is getting ridiculous, there needs to be a common registration mechanism to validate games between each service, otherwise you lock people into contained ecosystems and hurt sales.

I for instance have detterred from buying anything thats not on steam and really killing my prospectives, I actually liked onlive and might consider their services since my laptop just cant handle today's fast speed graphics.

I'm mostly worried about re-downloading on Origin and also if retail copies need to be "activated" on it like some need to be with Steam. I don't mind that with Steam since it's proven itself over the past several years, but EA Store already failed, and Origin is getting a lot of hate, and if that fails I don't want to be out a few games.
