First Sony got hit big and now there have been reports that Bethesda, Epic Games and Codemasters have suffered information attacks as well. What are your thoughts on this? I feel like changing all my passwords and making them a little different for every website and service (just in case). I think this might make many companies invest more on information security. Atleast I hope so. I haven't been too careful when typing my information all over the web (online stores etc.) so this is making me a bit wary.

whats worse is that even if you have made complex passwords to be secure you are at the mercy of whatever encryption method they used to store that information.

I got a notice from Codemasters that the account was compromised, but I never used my credit card or any other sensitive information, although I used the same password I use for every single website on the internet

Yeah, same here. I think the main point is that you should use a different password for every service. Maybe part of the password can be the same and part from the name of the service etc.

I've always been in the habit of having a different password for every website. If money is involved = complex, nothing personal = simple. And all the passwords are different. One simple thing to help make a password is something that only you would remember with a site. Say on this site, if I hated Bundai (example, I don't hate him), my password would be something like ireallyhatebundai. And change 1 or 2 letters to capitol and special characters. So something like this Ire@llyhatEbundi.

They apparently took down The Escapist after a lot of negativity in their direction and are taking requests on who to take down.
I'd wish I could nap those asses in their gonads.

On RPS some guy linked a letter with a transcript of lulzsec extorting a company owner for money and information. And they've got the gall to say that he should be happy it was them that did it.

Sega got hit as well. Didn't even remember I had an account there. Would probably be about time to change some passwords.

The fact that most companies store this valuable data in a retarded way is more worrying.
<Brumisator> dr matta is starting to act more and mor like the retarded part of gui's brain when he posts
[HLF]GUI: Seeing your name in red brings nothing but shadows to my dark soul. you will ruin this site. humanity. will burn.
EatChildren: oh god not dr matta what have we done

Like hlfallout for example... we put everyones details on a bulletin board with two pins on it to keep it safe. I also keep a back up in a box somewhere... I forget where I put it though.

I got a notice from yahoo the other day that my account may have been compromised, forced me to change my 5 year old password...

I have now started to keep a plain text file on my computer to keep track of all the different passwords I use because I keep forgetting them... :|

If you want to keep your details safe just give me that document and I'll keep it safe for when you need it. No one looks in the back pocket of my jeans so I'm sure it will be safe there.

I actually have started one some time ago. Every time I can't remember my password for a certain site, I just add it.
