The government offices in Oslo were hit by a car bomb. Several people are reported injured and dead, and as of yet no one has taken responbility. It is rumored that Muslim extremists were behind the attack.

UPDATE (23-07-2011):

The casualty number is still uncertain, but they have counted 84 dead on the island of Utøya and seven dead from the bomb that hit the government buildings in Oslo. The number of injured has not yet been released, but from television reports it seems to be well above 30.

The Utøya island is owned by the political youth party Workers' Youth League which is the youth organization of the Norwegian Labour Party, and it is also the senior partner in the current Norwegian government.

"Norwegian media identified the suspect as Anders Behring Breivik and posted pictures of the blond and blue-eyed Norwegian. A security official speaking on the condition of anonymity because the official was not allowed to release the name publicly said that the name was correct.

A Twitter account with Breivik’s name and photo has a single post, from July 17: “One person with a belief is equal to the force of 100 000 who have only interests,” slightly misquoting British philosopher John Stuart Mill. A Facebook account linked to Breivik cites his favorite books as John Stuart Mill’s On Liberty, Franz Kafka’s The Trial, and George Orwell’s 1984, among others. Another interest is hunting. It was not possible to confirm if the Twitter and Facebook accounts and posts belonged to the suspect in the shooting."


It is also claimed there is another suspect, and that Anders Behring Breivik was co-operating with someone else who had dark hair according to eye witnesses who were present at the massacre on the island.

Shit. Apparently a political meeting on a Norwegian island got shot up as well. They say it's related. It was very bloody with over twenty deaths.

holy crap, so the guy was some sort of right wing white christian conservative, man, w-ninja would be rolling in his grave if it wasnt an actual muslim terrorist attack like the initial reports said.

I'm actually glad it looks like it's some (incredibly evil, and calculating)nutcase, and that it was not an attack coordinated by a larger extremist group.
It would have been awful if an Islamic extremist group was behind it, as it seems that this country has enough issues with the integration of immigrants already.

But still, of course, an absolutely fucking horrible situation.
