they are actually getting ready to release a new lineup thats been completely redesigned. less power consumption and better performance. not sure if the price will jump with these or stay the same as they are being released as i5's and i7's just a different core.

I've heard of the Ivy Bridge cores from Intel, but I've also heard that the release date is only next year.

Make sure you PSU is up to scratch in quality. As others have said, quality > wattage (though wattage is obviously important). A low quality PSU is dooming your PC to a world of hurt.

The i7/i5 line are both wonderful. If you think you'll use hyperthreading, especially for editing software, the i7 is worth it. If you'd rather save some money or invest that $100 elsewhere, and dont really care about hyperthreading, the i5 2500 is a phenominal piece of hardware. If you go the i5, make sure to get the 2500K. This will leave the core completely unlocked. Have an aftermarket cooler stuck on that sucker and you will get a ton of extra juice from a simple overclock. The i7 is also a crazy piece of hardware for overclocking.

seems exaggerated, while these i5's and i7's and i'whatnots are nifty, you should really care about your throughput, that both video card & processor + bus speed match each others. No point in having a more expensive equipment if you arent maximizing the performance of the overall system.

GOD DAMNIT, my train just collided because i took my eyes off of it just to post here...

Before purchasing you might just want to check when AMD's new bulldozer architecture is shipping. If it is within the next few weeks you should hold on as Intel will probably react by lowering their prices.

If I buy through Amazon, which I probably will, they'll give me back any price difference if it falls within the first month or so.

I've been going back and forth on deciding to go with the i5 or i7. (I'll definitely go with the K variant) But as of right now, the PC will be a gaming machine and I'll be using my MacBook Pro for work (and photoshop duties + video stuff) Thanks EC!

its a complex system of mechanisms that must be carefully observed, apparently, in the meantime of writing the post, one of the freight got caught in the side of the cardboard box I am temporarily using as a cave, this lead to the steam engine decoupling from the rest of the train and going around the whole loop before reaching where the freight was stopped and into its inmediate doom.

If this was real, Retro_X would have cost the suicide_mission & co. an estimated 250K dollars in repairs + cargo loses, several lawsuits from the government, the life of an engineer and several passengers, a tragic day that would be remembered for years, etc...

I will hold services for the good men & women the lord chose to have beside his side later today, donations will be accepted for the window & their children...

that is all.

I think everything's set. i5 with GTX570 and most of the components listed above. Final price will be around $1000 and I'll be ordering my stuff later this month when I'll have time to put everything together and start playing some PC games again.

Everything arrived the past week and finally put it together last night.

Posted Image

Step 1: Install CPU + Heatsink/Fan and ram. (I think the ram slots are 3/4 by accident. Still dual channel and still works, but might switch it at a later date)

Posted Image

Step 2: Prepare the case for the motherboard.

Posted Image

Motherboard board in, wired up. Installed graphics card and PSU.

Posted Image

Installing Windows 7 Pro 64-bit

Posted Image

Pre-cable cleanup. The PSU has a ton of cables.
