Apple CEO Steve Jobs has resigned and will be replaced by former Chief Operating Officer Tim Cook, the company said late Wednesday. Jobs will stay on as Apple's chairman.

Apple made no mention of Jobs' health in its statement about the change, but Jobs alluded to it in the letter of resignation he sent to Apple's board on Wednesday and later released publicly.

"I have always said if there ever came a day when I could no longer meet my duties and expectations as Apple's CEO, I would be the first to let you know. Unfortunately, that day has come," wrote Jobs, who has been on medical leave since January. Cook has been filling in as the company's leader.

I heard it this morning.

I was surprised at first, but then I remembered he was on medical leave. Looks like whatever is ailing him isn't going to go away soon.

Truly the end of an era...well the second era, since he was already kicked out of Apple in the 80s.

At least we won't get any more of his obnoxious keynotes.

You know what else is great? My Little Pony.
But if you're not a 8 year old girl, they make you puke.

Same thing goes for Apple keynotes and people who aren't apple zealots.

These things are just not for everyone.

And so begins the steady decline in quality of Apples products.

Steve jobs was texting on his iPhone when he resigned.

He typed, "I resign as CEO of Apple" when he meant to say "I reign as CEO of Apple", now he forever knows the pain of auto correct.

I don't think the quality is so much in jeopardy as is the innovation and eye for aesthetics.

I'm hopeful that Tim Cook will keep Apple on track.

But Steve Jobs and team created an great company with great people behind it. Sure stock may go down because of this news, but that doesn't mean Apple's quality will decline.

Care to elaborate on that? I feel that Microsoft has finally pulled their act together with Windows 7 and quite possibly will continue along the sameline with Windows 8.

Forcing their dumb metro theme on everything is probably the dumbest shit ever. It's a mobile interface not a desktop or a media center interface. (in the case of the 360)
