So I pre purchased Red Orchestra 2, I got the special edition because I enjoyed the first one quite a bit. With the special edition I got beta access before the game came out. So I tried out the beta and was very disappointed with how it played and somehow it felt more like a mod than a game even compared to the first game. I know it was a beta and I expected it to be a little rough but since the game is coming out soon there was no way they would be able to make any massive improvements. So I got a refund from steam, so my question you everyone is have you ever looked forward to and thought of buying a game and then been put off by a demo or beta?

Dungeon Siege 3.

That's all that comes to mind right now. I was very disappointed though in the demo and immediately never wanted anything to do with the full game.

I bet GUI has a list as long as his arm.

EDIT . . . this thread needs a better title.

SUPER EDIT . . . If only we could have videos as thread titles

I rarely buy beta games, I usually wait out for the first week to see if a game is good, the only occasion I didnt was with TF2, and only because everyone else were raving about the beta...

I'm playing the Nuclear Dawn Beta and so far it has impressed me. The maps look nice, gameplay is fast and flowing. Looking forward to the final build.

Nuclear Dawn. I bought it a few days ago and played the Beta, it was just a glorified Source mod, which does not justify £15. I'll probably put that money towards Red Orchestra 2 when I get a new setup.

Welp, here are a few from recent memory.
Now, I've discussed these to death already, I don't want people to start justifying these games. I don't like them, and that's that.

Crysis 2: I loved the 1st crysis, and Warhead even more. Crysis 2 had me screaming at my computer in anger because it rapes everything Far cry and crysis used to be and stood, for for me.

Battlefield: Bad Company 2: Excited anout the game, I preordered it, we even made a little clan-type thing with a few people on HLF, we had matching signatures, it was the cutest thing ever.
In a nutshell, I hated it. I thought game has completely random spray patterns for guns, like everyone has parkinson's disease. You turn a corner, get your iron sights up, start shooting at an enemy 10 metres away, and just get killed by him seconds later. This isn't the 17th century, modern ballistics are pretty accurate, unlike in this game.
I was rather happy when the shop I preordered from screwed me over and the order fell through.

Dungeons: I really loved Dungeon Keeper back in the day, and I was excited to see a fan project make a spiritual sequel. Sadly, it's bogged down by walls of text and crappy controls and mechanics. just rubbish all around.

OH yeah, GTA4, absolutely. It's a good game, it's just not fun like GTA used to be. I did learn to enjoy it after a while, but good thing Saints row 2 came along to make carjacking fun again, despite its bad PC port.

Woot woot, SR3 coming soon!

Final Fantasy XIII was a HUGE letdown for me. The FF games used to be my favorites... but the latest one shouldn't even have the same title.

To be fair, all games on DrMatta's list have serious flaws, just to point out a few obvious one:

I liked Assassin's Creed, but I understand why many people didn't, it had the cool freerun mechanics down, but lacked good gameplay to utilise them properly. the sequels fixed that, I think.

Far Cry 2 was an open game, so almost everyone expected some sort of RPG-ish character interaction system, instead they got mindless enemies shooting at everything that moved.

Conviction is one of my guilty pleasures, it's pretty fun if you forget it's called Splinter Cell. It completely raped the franchise.

UT3 lacked the open areas, the interesting game modes of the previous UTs, it felt like a step back in almost all aspects. It wasn't terrible, but it regressed the series's gameplay rather than advancing it.

And GTA 4 I already talked about earlier.

What is wrong with a mindless shooting open world game? (Far Cry 2)

Its only issue was that there wasn't much to do in the game world and there was nothing in it except angry black people who wanted to kill you.

I never got far with Far Cry 2 because it got so annoying been chased every few minuets by people in jeeps. Could have been a lot more fun if they toned them down.
