Hi good people,

Nice to meet everyone.

Ive tried searching for this info online, on both steampowered and here so i felt compelled to register and find out what is going on with my Half-life music.

Recently i bought a new computer. Obviously when i log into my steam account i have my list of games available.

I decided that since im having an off nite i would download half-life 1 and give it a play for old times. -Download without any problems.

So i start a new game and i am greeted with the dark screen with 'HALF-LIFE'. In the background i then hear 'Good morning..' etc.

AND THEN JAMES BLUNT-YOU'RE BEAUTIFUL starts playing in the background aswel on top of all the other ambient sound.

Doing the precautionary thing, i minimise half-life and decide to check for any webpages/media players open that mayb my gf left open.None.

So i play through again and decide that the next music scene is when you put on the HEV suit. -So excruciatingly painful as it was i sat it through on the tram listening to James blunt calling me beautiful which some what took away from the eerie atomosphere. I really did think barney would great me with a hug at anomalous materials.

Eventually i get to the HEV suit. The suit goes on and low and behold GREEN DAY-WAKE ME UP WHEN SEPTEMBER ENDs starts playing.

Is valve trolling? Or have i gone crazy?

Thanks guys, im sure this is a change from the 'normal' posts you would get.

Thanks. Just to confirm again, this isnt something on my particular computer. This is a new computer and i simply redownloaded half-life since it was registered to my account. Therefore any downloaded valves were exactly how steam downloaded them.

Do you have an audio CD in your computer's optical media drive?
Ye old HL1's disk version read the game's music directly from the CD.

If you want to play half-life 1 conveniently, download it legally from Steam.

Do you knowingly have those particular James Blunt and Greenday songs stored somewhere on your PC?

I do remember from years ago, that the game somehow played music I had on either the PC (or was it a CD I had in the drive). But I don't remember the hows and whys.
Try to locate the song on your PC, perhaps it's confusing the folders.

The good old cd-version of Half-Life was a cd-rom/cd, when you put it in your stereo you can here your Half-Life music (yeah I did that :cool).
In the later patches 1.1.1.1.1.1.8.8 (I don't remember) you didnt had to use a cd anymore to play Half-Life, but that means no music. When you had a random cd in your computer, Half-Life uses the tracks on that cd as music.

But for Steam I don't know how you made that possible, it downloads the songs on the go when you reach a part where a song has to play. And I don't know in wich map they get download, I do now it are bad quality mp3 files, the cd songs sound much better...

This happened to me once, except the song was on my computer. I was playing Surface Tension where you blow open the doors and the Osprey keeps sending down troops, and all of a sudden 'War Pigs' starts playing. Totally confused the hell out of me but turns out it's an awesome soundtrack to mowing down soldiers and aliens with machine gun fire. Don't think it's anything serious and never happened to me again unfortunately .
