The Steam Holiday Sale is on now through Sunday, January 1, 2012. In addition to huge savings throughout the store, the sale features two special promotions that allow you to win like never before.

The Great Gift Pile challenges gamers to complete up to six objectives each day. Completion of each objective grants the chance to win a free game or discount coupons for select games available on Steam. If you don't win, no worries, you'll be given a piece of coal. But hold onto that coal! Coal is the ticket to enter the Epic Holiday Giveaway. It's called Epic because the top prize is every game on Steam. The more coal you have, the better your chance of winning. Players may alternatively choose to magically mix their coal into something shiny and new by "crafting" seven pieces into a gift from the Great Gift Pile. So this year receiving coal is a good thing.Didn't get what you want? Steam allows you to trade coal and prizes with your friends. So head over to Steam now to get a hold of some bargains!

They accidentally applied the Daily sale and the Holiday sale to Dead Island.

Now everything is just broken.

There's a BoI holiday sale challenge coming up, so it might go on daily sale at some point.

Give me all your coal. I'm going to get the Grand Prize: every game on Steam.

Since you can craft one gift from 7 lumps of coal, I wish you could break a gift down to 7 lumps of coal...

I think you can only get a max of 7 entries? It says you can only earn 7 coal, so I'm assuming that means you will only get 7 entries even if you somehow grab more coal.

Dear Valve: a coupon is not a gift.

I'm getting rather tired of the formula these sales use.
High pressure limited-time sales, with zynga-like metagames for coal, or potatoes, or whatever they come up with next, just so you spend more money on steam, and work for a completely unobtainable grand prize, like every lottery ever.

But hey, social engineering works, you just keep on throwing money at Steam. I've got enough games for now.

I think we should all group our coal together and hand out the games you get to them. Probably most of the games will be rubbish but I think its worth a shot!
