Hello everyone, with the holidays finally rolling around I've decided to finally take a look at laptops and buy myself a gift. I was hoping someone has some kind of experience with laptops since I've always been a desktop gamer. Regardless, for the next few months I'll be away at school and will not have time to lug around a tower with me wherever I go. Now, I'm looking for a damn powerhouse, I'd love to be able to play BF3 comfortably and not have to think twice when I'm at Gamestop or sitting on Steam, debating on what new title I want to play through.

I've been poking around the internet and have been eyeing the Asus G74SX. Although I still haven't completely abandoned the possibility of building one of my own over the web and having them ship it to me. Anyone have any suggestions or recommendations?

Thanks HLF. It's good to be back!

I have the G53JW and I'm just gonna straight up say no. The build quality on the ASUS gaming laptops is terrible. On mine, I had the AC connector port lift off the motherboard because it heats up too much and unsolders itself (others had issues with the pin inside breaking, this isn't uncommon). I sent it in for warranty and got my laptop returned with the keyboard backlighting not working and the laptop assembled incorrectly. Another issue that currently plagues all the G-series laptops is keyboard lag. It's a problem with the BIOS and it causes the keyboard to not pick up some of the letters you type if you type fast enough. 2 of my frat brothers had the Asus G-series laptops the generation prior to these stealth-fighter designs, and they both have NONE of their original components, they had to have everything RMA'd except for their cases.

My personal recommendation?

With the Lenovo Employee pricing, the cost of this laptop is supreme, and the battery life is great because of Optimus graphics switching. I know it seems weird to use a workstation laptop to game, but damn this is one powerful beast at a great price.

You can customize it too.
