Can't install Train simulator 2012

Never used any of these products before. My son (13 years old) got the CD for Christmas. He logged on his account with Steam and tried to install his game using the key code at the back of the booklet but it does not work. Posted Image I am not sure what we are missing but we are stuck. He was told he was not logged on repeatedly and he does not know how to bypass this. We have emailed Steam twice and have got nowhere so far. Any bright idea?

From your statement, it seems that your son isnt logged into steam, possibly he is in offline mode, verify first that he is logged into steam  

Click on Steam Menu -> Go Online...

Steam also takes a long time to respond, especially during the holiday sale.
