Dear HLF members,

I want to compile a list of games I believe are bang for the buck, games you believe you didnt pay enough for the amount of enjoyment you received in return, this should be a list of games you paid less than retail or normally less than retail but played the living hell out of them. PC master race, console & portables are included:

Here is a small list of games that I think I underpaid by a large amount:

1) Half Life (39.99?) 1998 - (+12 years)

2) Team Fortress: ~15 bucks (Orange Box) (+4 years)

3) Oblivion: 29.99 - 1.5 years (about 2-3 hours a day, and that was mostly reading the books)

4) SimCity 2000: 19.99 (2 years) my cities always went into bankruptcy though...

5) Super Mario 3: 1994? -

I could name other note-worthy games, but those were the ones that left me hooked and couldn't stop playing,

We can also have an anti-best-list list, games you paid and immediately deleted them from your hard drive.

Games I overpaid:

1) L4D1 & 2, stopped playing the first after 1 month, second I have less than 1 or 2 hours

1) Arkham Asylum (49.99) great graphics, gameplay never pulled me in, yes yes, i know, shut up

3) Total War: Any of them.

Excite Truck. I paid something like AU$15 for it, second hand, off eBay. Spent enough time with it to platinum every single race in the game and unlock absolutely everything. Wish I had bought it at launch and full price.

I got Nier for u$20 and put 85 hours into it. Did all sidequests, upgraded all weapons and saw all endings. Pro game.
Got Crysis 2 for full price on release and played it for 50 hours. One of the better FPS'es this gen.
Got Doom 3 for u$40 back in 2004 and I've probably put over 500 hours into it. **** everything.
I got Dead Rising for u$40 in 2006 and played it for around 60 hours or so, even liked it enough to get the godawful survivor mode achievements.
Dead Rising 2 was more or less similar, but by then the formula didn't feel new anymore, so I played it for 30 hours and never bothered getting absolutely everything in it.
I got Devil May Cry 3 on 2006 and also put an absurd amount of hours into it, more so when the special edition came out.

Oh yeah, Nier too. Paid about that much and managed to see all four endings.
Bayonetta I paid about AU$20 for because the game had been out forever once I got my PS3. Relative to enjoyment/hours played, it was a steal.

Nier is better when you 100% it because seeing your 85 hour save file slowly fading away while you watch the last ending is the most Posted Image thing ever.

I couldn't force myself to grind for weapon upgrades. Only a sick madman would do that.

Mirror's Edge for € 5,-. I bought it on sale and have been loving it so much I feel kind of guilty for it.

Psychonauts for less than 5 euros. After years of hearing that I should get it I bought it on a Steam sale.

exite truck and Doom 3 are awesome.

Minecraft - cant believe i'm the first to state this obvious one.
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. - bought it when it first came out for full price but i played this for months nonstop.
Counter Strike Source. i've got over a 800 hours in it right now according to steam and thats not counting time played before steam started keeping track of hours played.
Diablo 1 & Hellfire & 2 & lord of destruction - soon to be diablo 3. i know i've played these more than any other game.
Torchlight - not as fun as diablo due to limited variety but still good.
the first 2 Painkillers. Fucking awesome mind numbing fast paced fps's. tried to play the newer ones and couldn't get into them.
Mount&Blade. - i've spent countlesss hours just in the arena battles. not to mention the open world fights.
starcraft 1 & warcraft 3 - me and my buddies on dial up playing custom maps. the fun never ends.
wizards and warriors (2000, pc) - dont know why i got hooked on this game when i bought it. but i loved it.
I know theres tons more i just cant think right now.

Bioshock- 20 bucks

The Witcher- 20 bucks

Dragon age- 20 bucks

Mass Effect- 20

ect. There are a bunch of games that are really good and eventually get cheaper, with my car being one of my hobbies I don't rly have the money to do both which is fine because games don't stay 60$ forever, unfortunately car part prices rarely drop.

All kinds of good games come to mind... but with my huge HLF administrator salary, I don't look at the cost all that often.

Mount & Blade: warband comes to mind. I'd played the 1st mount & blade, but it felt meh...but an army of one Monkeh got me hooked on M&B:W for a while.

Most cheapo games I've bought were steam slaves of games I'd had for a long time in warez or on dusty CD/DVDs.

Left 4 Dead 1 & 2 - €9,99 - 1 has 56 hours & 2 113 hours.
My best deal ever, great games.

Batman Arkham City - €24,99 - 35 hours and counting.
One of my favorite games of last year.

Orange Box - Can't remember what it cost - Team Fortress 2 with over 112 hours, Episode 2 & Portal.
Do I need to say more :gordon:.

Ofcourse Half-Life 1, got it as a birthday gift in 1999 I think.
Have put so many hours in it, the good old times :whack:.

C&C & Red Alert series, one of my favorite series, many many hours and money well worth spend on it. (except C&C4, wich was a failure :( )

And my best deal ever, Counter-Strike 7.1 - 1.5
It was free, and I think I have over 9000 hours playing it. :D

My worst buy's I think are my Xbox games, they are fucking expensive, and I get bored fast with console games.

Hands down Enslaved, not worth the 15 euro's. Buggy piece of crap. Best game i ever paid for is every Valve game, portal 1 + 2, halflife etc etc. Still games i play often. Most hours is hands down WoW, i'm afraid to type in /played and see how many hours i invested :)

Arma 2: $50 and probably close to 500 hours in it

Supreme Commander & Forged Alliance expansion pack: $50 + $20 (plus $10 - $20 or whatever it is when I re-purchased on Steam for the convenience) - Countless hours. Whenever I'm bored, this is almost always my go-to game, and I usually get sucked in for the rest of the evening on 40 or 80 square km map against 7 cheating difficulty AIs and some techs off limits depending on my mood

Half-Life - $50 - Duh

Fallout 1 and 2 - $? - I've purchased each of these a few times over the years since I always seem to lose them. Bought them on GOG last year and then Steam recently (although the Steam version has issues) just because. I don't even remember how many times I've replayed each of these, and am always finding new things each time I play. These games are why my dream if I won a large lottery would be to start Black Isle again and get all the guys back together, and why I'm so fucking excited for Wasteland 2 uniting so many of the people involved. Just thinking about that brought a tear to my eye and a hardon to my pants.
