Eagle eyed member of the site 'Valvetime' have uncovered some interesting things in the Sourcefilm maker files when looking for the term 'Source 2' 60+ references came up which seems to show that Valves next engine will be Source 2 and it looks to keep the .BSP level format that the current Source engine uses.

An Alyx model reference has already been found in the sourcefilm maker under a folder titled 'ep3' so it seems Valve are at least working on a new Half-Life game and not just creating Team Fortress hats.

And one last thing to note is a Facepunch forum user has found icons that seem to be for the Source 2 editor. Take a look!

UPDATE: One last subtle clue, Valve added a new line under their description for the source engine on their website. "And it’s about to get even better."

I bet after all that it's just a UI update for Hammer Editor :(

Would be good if the SDK tools would get a bit of reworking, since from what I've heard it's not the easiest to use.
That said, an engine update would have to be a big change (since they have been improving it continuously without a name change) if they are going to call it source 2.

Valve have sneakily removed all references to source 2 in the latest Filmmaker update
