Well thats fine then, as long as they don't redo important characters it doesn't bother me too much. The soldiers sounds like someone trying their best to do a gruff voice.

Have they got rid of the flash light?

Wow that was rather disappointing actually...

What did you think it would be like? This gameplay trailer is pretty much as expected...

About the voice acting- the problem with that particular scene is that it is overacted, sounds like they are doing a stage play. And since they did not add anything new to the conversation I don't see the point of recording dialog again... Anyway this scene is not very important, however if the numerous scientists in Black Mesa all have voice acting of this quality it would be quite jarring and an immersion killer, hope DrMatta is right. In HL2 I actually think Dr.Kliener is quite weak on the voice acting front- just sounds like a guy reading lines in a cheesy manner trying to portray an absent minded scientist stereotype.

Overall kudos to the devs of Black Mesa, they have stuck to their task for years on end despite so many saying it will never be released. Personally I always believed they would eventually finish it and I still do...

I think it's looking good all things considered. I too have faith it'll be released eventually. Quite when though, I have no idea. They'd have to be insane to have spent so many man-hours on it now only to not release it.

They should scrap this and make a Black Mesa: Source (Engine) 2
And those soldier voices, they are just not right, they better used the orignals.
I still love their shouting trough the radio, they even kept that style in HL2 for the combine soldiers. But they suck compared to the originals in HL1.

BTW CS:GO is available for pre-sale. Or did I live inder a rock?

lead level designer Daniel “Raminator” Junek has said they are already making changes based on the video which was from a build about 4-5 weeks old.

  • We've made the ironsights functionality an option that you can choose in the main menu, it's on by default.

  • We previously had two sets of voices for human grunts; a deeper, more gruff one for commanders, and a younger, cleaner one for regular grunts and medics. We've now given regular grunts the badass gruff voice as well, and all voices have had a radio-static filter applied. As a result, all human grunts now wear gasmasks.

  • We are re-recording the human grunts scripted dialogue (i.e. scripted sequences, not their idle/combat chatter).

  • We have replaced the song in this battle with an alternate track, one that's darker and more aggressive.

After seeing this video released I couldn't believe it was still in development. It's quite fascinating to be honest. I like the visual effects they put in. Certainly gives a facelift to the original Source engine effects. I wonder when they'll be releasing it.

I think they should release other videos of different scenarios in BM, the reason being is they release this video and a lot of stuff that people didn't like came out, as a result they made changes hopefully for the better.

Um...so that looks amazing. Clearly a little dated looking (8 years guys, come on!), but it's at least got the nostalgia/novelty factor going for it. And on the plus side it looks fun, and the level design seems interesting. As for the whole voice acting thing, I really enjoyed it, it's got a great b-movie feel to it. Whether or not it was intended, it made me laugh out loud a couple times, more so at it than with, but still I found it very engaging.
