Go AMD. The 3000+ is faster, but that's not the point. The Athlon 64s are the best CPUs performance and price wise.

And if 64 bit computing ever takes off, your ready! :):

I think it's more of a "when" than an "if", and how does getting an Athlon XP help him get ready for an 64?

The XP is probably going to be a better buy, as it's about 30% cheaper. The P4 is indeed faster, but I don't think the added cost justifies it. Up to you. Just remember that Intel is evil ;)

Here's a review that compairs the 2 in the benchmarks, though I don't think the article itself mentions them.

See in my eyes... IP4 is liked by some (AMD and IP4 is a 50/50 deal, half like one and the other half like the other). AMD is more common because its cheaper for those people wanting to make fast computers. I say go with the IP4, its more reliable and you know its always going to be supported.

I say go for a 3000+ why??? Overclock the thing and it will run higher than a P4 3.2 with a stock fan.... My 2600+ is running at a p4 3.0 stock fan... Will increase when i get a new fan.. Trying to reach a 3.6 with /h My FSB right now is 639 just 200 more and it will run like a p4 3.6 with HT

If your into overcloking get a Amd athlon xp... I would get a 2000+ if your low on budget... Just overclock that baby and it will reach a p4 3.0.

If you a normal type pc person just get a p4 2.8...

i would get that Amd athlon xp because of the price and 3000+ owns p4 2.8... P4 2.8 cant overclock to much....(Becux of heat).. it takes up more pwoer in your power supply and it cost more..

Heres how it is...

Heres how a amd looks...( NOT REAL)
_______ | = a highway to transport the prossessor speed....
| | | |
| | | |

- Theres four highways which means it the transport will not be clushtered like the P4

p4

________
| |
| |

Not this is why Pentiums are more heated than the amd....

I RECOMMAND THE AMD ATHLON XP 3000+ barton core with 400 FSB

go with the P4 u can overclock the s**t out of P4's. A good example of this is shown HERE when a P4 was overclocked to 5Ghz and kept a heatsink temp of around -171 celcius. (did i mention they used liquid nitrogen to cool it??)

Ok ya , buddy tells you that the p4 was OC to 5ghz. But i doubt you can do that with the equiptment you have . I say go with the AMD 64 because it owns the p4 , unless you wana by the p4 EE. But the AMD 64 FX is close to the p4 EE and a fraction of the cost :D
